BA bombings
My boyfriend and I are leaving for BA next Wednesday, and he is freaking out about the three bombs that went off at banks this morning. Has anyone else been to BA shortly after the last bank bombings? I imagine in a city that size, life just goes on. Any thoughts?

Is your boyfriend a Middle aged woman from the midwestern US?!
Have you ever been to New York? There must be at least 50 muggings per day, and several bank robberies per month! and as you said life goes on.
BsAs can not be any more dangerous than any other big city. However, it is always good to practice common sense.

I just returned from BA (see my trip report posted today) and I agree with the other posters. There is no reason to cancel or modify your trip. Whatever the motivation for these terrible bombings, they appear to pose minimal threat to tourists. The Argentines are a wonderful and friendly people and we did not sense any anti-Americanism. This is a huge city with hundreds of banks, including several Citibank locations, so it is not as if you will not be able to use an ATM.

I am posting this message from an internet cafe (locutorio)in Buenos Aires, in the REcoleta neighborhood. Yesterday I visited several other barrios--Palermo, Las Canitas, Barrio Norte and the area around Plaza del} Mayo.....all is calm and life is going on very much as normal.....in Las Canitas on a Wed. evening the restaurants and clubs were jam packed....Tell your boyfriend not to worry....exchange money at the airport at the Banco de la Nacion and receive the same or better rate of exchange than you will receive in the banks in the city, where the bombings occured....
There is much resentment of the banks here, for their role pre and post economic crisis....lots of people lost their life savings, or recovered only a fraction of what they invested....which probably explains the bombings....

My boyfriend and I just returned from Buenos Aires today, and I actually had no idea that the bombings had even happened until I read the papers back in New York today-- so yes, life in BA definitely goes on! We found BA to be very safe and the Argentinians were so incredibly friendly. You should definitely not change your travel plans. You'll have a great time.
