ATM's in Santa Teresa/Malpais

So sorry - one more question!

I thougth I would find the answer, but I am tired of searching!

Are the girls going to be able to find an ATM in Santa Teresa easily?

Trying to decide on their money.

Thanks
Donna

Maybe surfexec could better addres this question, as he seems to be very familiar with the area; however, we did not see any in Sta. Teresa/MalPais. We attempted to use the one on the corner in Cobano (between Malpais and Montezuma), sort of the "business hub" of the area. It didn't work. I think if we had had the Visa Plus (rather than Cirrus) it would have worked.

Thanks shillmac, They have studied the map and are familiar with where Cobano is. As I recall there was a bank there also, if it becomes necessary. Am I correct in my memory?

One has Visa, the other MC.

Anyone else been there lately that can answer this one by Friday?

Again, Thanks

Just returned from Montezuma and Mal Pais on Sunday. Don't remember seeing any ATM's in Mal Pais. I used the ATM several time in Cobano. No problems with Credit card. Call your credit card company before you go and receive a new pin, also let them know the dates you will be in Costa Rica. You probably won't be able to use is if you don't. Lot's of places use American money in Mal Pais and I would assume Santa Teresa also. Hope this helps.

I used my MC with cirrus on the back. Worked fine. The ATM is in spanish and english. It would only allow us 100,000 colones each time you used it. I don't think there was a daily limit. The only problem would be the line. Try to use it before or after 11:30 am. There is also an ATM in Montezuma, but it was conveniently "broken" alot.

For anyone going to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, the "banking" situation is going to get better in 2006. There is a "Centro Comercial" being built opposite (beachside) Frank's Place. It is due for completion Feb '06 and will include a BANK! It will be the Banco Custcatalan (something like that!), so those trips to Cobano will be a thing of the past. Whilst Frank's Place is good for emergency funds, its a. Expensive and b. Quiet often is out of order.
Also planned for the Centro Comercial is a Pharmacy/Drug store,Doctor and various shops (20 in all). There is also a small hotel going up (27 rooms) , a restaurant amd gym. All good news and a sign of how Mal Pais is developing.
NOW WE JUST NEED A DECENT ROAD ROAD FROM COBANO AND MAL PAIS!!(is that too much to ask!!)

That construction project going on across from Frank's place is the first step into turning Mal Pais into another Tamarindo. A new road would only speed up the process
