ATM's in Guatemala
Despite meetings last week with embassy personnel, bank officials, and ex-pats who have been hit by the ATM frauds, nothing has been done to correct/stop the problem. If you are coming down soon, be very careful using the ATM's and check your bank statements often! Semana Santa is upon us bringing the usual pickpockets in crowds; it adds insult to injury to have the bloody banks doing even worse to unsuspecting tourists as well as to the locals and permanent ex-pat residents.

Thanks Judi, I've been very carefully using the ATM machines here in Guatemala for seven weeks, checking my bank account on line every other day. When I get back home Thursday, I am going directly in to my bank to get this card deactivated and get a new one with a new pin. So far, so good, but I was very glad to have had this information from the forum, so that I knew to be cautious.
