wondering if anyone can tell me how easy it is to withdraw cash from automatic teller machines in antigua as I don't want to carry too much cash with me?

Hi we had no problem. As I recall there is an ATM near the main plaza. It is full of people all around, anyway we had no problem.

Just got back from Antigua last week and used the ATM machine several times. I did not have any problems. The machines are just like the ones in the US and are in Spanish and English.

Not to scare you but I was in Antigua in January and my friend got his ATM card stuck in a machine. When we asked the manager of the bank she opened the machine saw nothing and would not help him get in contact with his bank. Otherwise I sawe many ATM machines and many of them are in banks with armed guards standing by.

I travelled all throughout Guatemala and had no problems with ATM machines. I hope that you plan on going other places. Antigua is nice but it does not give you a real feel for the country.

Hi!
I have been going to Guatemala for over 5 years and have been using the ATM's with no problem. In Antigua there are a few located around the main plaza, usually associated with banks. They are easy to use. Some are more private than others. I have also used the ATM's in Panajachel, also with no trouble.

Have fun! It is a wonderful country. Don't miss the Indian Market at Chichicastanango and the villages around Lake Attitlan.
