I didn't get charged a fee in Argentina, Peru, or Chile. However, my local bank (B of A) did charge a fee.

I am in Peru now, and the only ATM I have used so far seems to have charged a fee of about $1.30 (4 soles), in addition to whatever my bank charges.

BTW, a guide here told us that the exchange rate is better if you take dollars out of the ATM and exchange them for soles with a money changer. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks,
Len

Nope, they use Soles in Peru. A money changer is a guy who does currency exchange. There tends to be lots of these in South America, especially in the tourist areas.
