Another question re. Merida car hire - Unirent?

Hi all. We are looking at hiring a mid-sized car (e.g. VW Gol or Jetta) for 9 or 10 days picking up in Merida & dropping around Cancun. I'm aware of the need for local insurance & the one-way fee.

I was assuming to use Easyway based on the generally favourable reviews, but came across an outfit called Unirent. They are significantly cheaper, e.g. a VW Gol is US$567 with Easyway compared to US$408 with Unirent. And the one-way fee is also a US$25 cheaper.

However Unirent have very little internet presence other than a couple of very positive, genuine-sounding mentions on the TA Merida forum.

Does anyone know them? Recommended or not?

There's a Facebook group called Mexico Amigos! that expats hang out in. You could ask you question there. They seem to know all about Merida.

Hmmm. Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it appears to be a private FB group - inaccessible to the uninvited.

Yes, I did thanks. That's about all there is on Unirent - the comments are very positive, but its such a small sample size.

So why not just call and talk to them? The positive comments seem to be about the guys who run the place, so have a conversation for yourself.

yo Samba...ever get to Merida and vicinity? My daughter and her husband relocated there last year where he has become a popular entertainer (keyboardist) playing with a few ex-pat groups, one called The Yucatones. If visiting, let me know. They're fun people.

Tower, I live in Merida and am familiar with the Yucatones. Haven't seen them for a bit but they're very good. They have a huge following of expats and locals. I think they switch band members so I'm not sure who your relatives are. Give me a hint.

@tower--
We usually stay in Tulum (favorite beach) where we have local Maya friends, though we've passed through Merida and like Valladolid.

Cybor...David Bloom, my soninlaw, is the keyboardist and general entertainer. They're all over Facebook. David's wife Hilary is my youngest daughter. Drop in and say hello...you'll be warmly welcomed.

Hi Stu,
I had a hard time finding this post so I'm not sure if you're paying attention but I've talked to Hillary a few times since this post. She's a great lady. It seems that we travel in the same circles.
Small world.
I'm also originally from Ma and RI - we still have a place on the Cape.
