My daughter and I enjoyed it last October. It's a bit pricey, though, for the area. We liked being closer to Manzanillo than Puerto Viejo and had great fun renting bicycles and riding up to PV and down to Manzanillo one day. The tents were very comfortable and a cool experience, we thought.

Oops, I should mention (because I don't think the website tells you this!) the beach is absolutely unswimmable. You have to walk about 10 minutes north to find a good swimming area. There are strong warnings posted. That said, it is a pretty beach and has some hammocks, I think. You just need to stay out of the water! Riptides. . .

Shillmac - Thanks for your input. We are booked there for 4 days in early December. We are hikers/backpackers and have stayed in a tent cabin near Cape Tribulation in Australia and it sounds very similar. I did realize that the beach was not swimmable. Glad to hear that Manzanillo is within biking distance. Although aerobically fit, I'm not a bike rider so was wondering if I'd make it there! We start at Bosque del Cabo, then to Arenal Observatory for a coupleof nights, on to A&C and finally to Selva Bananito. I'm getting excited. We leave Nov. 29.

Great itinerary! You'll have an amazing time! Yep, from Almonds & Corals, it's only about 2km on down to Manzanillo. Now up to Puerto Viejo is another story, much further, but still fun if your backside can tolerate those uncomfortable seats! I'm not a regular bike rider either, but sure enjoyed this activity with my daughter. It was different, making it tons of fun--sweat and all!
Have a great time!

my wife and i just came back from the almonds and corals in january of this year and we truly love this place. there are 20 tents now double the size of last time we went, but the food is way better now!! we are not much for bicking but you can have a wonderful hike downt to manzanillo on the beach in peace and quiet. once there there is ok snokeling depending on the weather and a very good restaraunt to grab a beer or very good meal. lots of hiking options, including a free small park right at the hotel, where the wildlife is always around you in a natural not zoo setting. frog enclosures keep predatores out not them in.I should say if you love watching creatures of all types and like a little peace you will love this place. on the other hand if you want night life you will probably have to catch a cab to one of the nearby towns.
i hope this helps and i know you will love this place.
p.s. if you have any more questions feel free to contact me.
