4 friends in Nicaragua
Just got back from a wonderful trip in Nicaragua. I traveled with three other girls or I guess I should say women. We only had six nights so we had to make a lot of choices about what we wanted to do.
We stayed four nights in Granada at Casa San Francico enjoying hiking, swimming, touring during the day and wonderful dinners at our hotel at night.
After Granada we went to San Juan del Sur staying at Pelican Eyes.
On our last night we went sailing which was the perfect way to enjoy our final day.
Nicaragua is a great country with people who are friendly and helpful.

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to Nicaragua in January to visit a friend who lives in Managua. What tours did you do during the day? Did you try the ziplines at Mombacho? I'll have about the same amount of time you do, although will be staying with my friend in Managua and doing day trips from there. What would say were the highlights for you? Would appreciate any specific tips. Thanks,
Karen

Karen,
You must be getting excited about your trip.
Our first full day there we did a tour to Zapatera Island by boat. We had an early morning pickup and toured a couple different islands which had petroglyphs and other relics. It was interesting and also included a few short hikes. We all really enjoyed our time on the water as well.
That afternoon we went to a local tourist market which was honestly just ok. We did get to try some interesting foods. We also got to go to San Juan Oriente which is a little town known for pottery. The pottery is absolutely beautiful and I would have loved to buy more then I did.. not enough room.
On our second day we went to Mombacho volcano and hiked the puma trail. This was one of my highlights. It was a difficult hike but very peaceful and beautiful.
My friends did the zipline within the park on our way out. They loved it, I am not fond of ziplines although so I skipped it but got to see a family of howler monkeys in the trees so I was well entertained. I will write more tomorrow.

Glad to hear you had a great time, wasn't CSF the cutest little place? Rodolfo at Oro Travel was great, they really made all go so smooth. How'd you like the ride up Mombacho in the truck??!! Good heavens! Well I just got back and have been awake for a long long time but look forward to hearing more about your trip, especially SJDS.

Tully,
Yes, we fell in love with Casa San Francisco. Wasn't Carlos just wonderful? The food fantastic?
I actually ended up being there an extra night so our time there did overlap. I was keeping my eyes out for a single woman traveler but I never ran into you.
Our night at the beach had to be cancelled because of the weather and it didn't take much to decide to stay an extra night. There was so much do to around Granada that we just ended up doing extra trips.
Yes, the road was pretty rocky up to Mombacho but.. it was even worse when we went to the Parakeet reserve if you can imagine that.Welcome back, can't wait to hear about your adventures. Did you buy any pottery?
I feel like I am on fast forward since I have been home. First Halloween and now my son's birthday party tomorrow.. I just might need to go back to get my breath..
