30th in Argentina
I'm planning on spending my 30th in Argentina in September. I'm hoping to spend about two weeks there and i want to travel from Buenos Aires to villa la angostura. But Salta sounds really good too. I want a party experience plus a relaxing nature appreciation experience. Could i do all three in only two weeks? If not what would be the best to do. I don't want to be too rushed either. And I hear Argentinians speak a different style of spanish? I've done a year's worth of Latin American Spanish, will i get by with that?

MAxjourn; the NW, is really worth, the sceneries you will see in the area are really amazing. I suggest at least four days. One day for the town, one day for Cafayate, our wine area, where you will be able to taste the unique torrontes wine... and two dasy for the north, I mean the Salt Flats ang Humahuaca Gorge. I suggest to overnight in Purmamarca, a little town where the 7-colour mountains are, and wher, I am confident you will be able to enjoy the walk around "los colorados". You will not regret about choosing it.
Warm regards.

We just did two weeks over the holidays and my two children (21 & 20) stayed for an extra three weeks. They travelled to Salta and had an absolute blast! As a family, we travelled to Bariloche and Villa la Angostura -- more low key (& El Califate - the highlight of the trip!!). You can do alot over two weeks ...but would need to route back thru BA to get to Salta. Good luck...

Muchas Gracias for the information. I really appreciate it. There's just so much to choose and so little time
Anyway, what about the language anyone? Will i have a problem not speaking the Argentinian dialect of Spanish or will I be ok?

Flintstones, I am interested in the Northwest also. I'm mostly interested in enjoying beautiful scenery. Would you still suggest 4 days? And what would you suggest? Would Humahuaca Gorge and also the 7 colour Mountains.
Which way would you suggest to get to this area from Buenos Aires? And once there, should we rent a car? or take a tour?
Thanks for any advice.

Ms. President kodi: Angie (Flintstones) is a top independent Salta guide and a great gal, to boot.
Of course, she'll suggest using her services, but she'll be honest about it.
E-mail her to [email protected] with any questions you have and she'll get back to you as soon as possible.
In the other forum, I wrote a very long report about my visit to Salta last July. I suggest you read it. If you cannot find it, I'll help, but I'll reduce your salary, to below zero. LOL!!!

Oh PLEASE don't reduce my salary. How will I afford to travel to Argentina???
Thanks for the great information .
I have read quite a few posts written by Flintstones and she really does sound very informative and a big help.
I'm not sure if we'll make it to this area, but it sounds like a good possibility for a time away from BsAs.
I'll see what my friend wants to do .
I love beautiful mountains and also rugged scenery.
It's good to know Angie is a guide.
And I will go to the 'other' forum and read your trip report.

AV , we are planning a fifteen day trip to Argentina in late October. Going to visit Salta area, BA, and Lake country. I would like to read the report on your July visit. I am fairly new to this form. How do I find your report? Thanks

Thanks to both of you. We are trying to decide the best way to divide our time. We think we will go to NW first and put BA in the middle since you have to fly back to BA to get anywhere else, ending the trip in the Lake country. Anyone?

Consider leaving BA as your last stage, because, as you will read in my Salta thread, you COULD miss your international flight if you are connecting with it from our NW or our South. If you are in BA, there is no chance of that happening.
