We spent 6 weeks in Chile and Argentina in 2007 and fell in love with both. You will have a trip of a lifetime. All credit cards are charging a percentage fee for international transactions with the exceptiont of Capitol One - we have gotten a Capitol One for the sole purpose of traveling internationally and have had no problems. I also tell them that the reason I have their card is because of this feature!! Our experience with ATMs was also positive but each bank did differ in terms of the total amount you could take out per transaction (and our bank charges a fee per transaction). We were able to get by just fine with credit card and ATMs. Have a wonderful trip!

Capital One does not charge any international fees. It was easy to use in most places in BA, but smaller villages in the NW were mostly cash. ATM machines provided money easily with numerous withdrawals allowed per day. Just a word of caution--call the credit card and ATM companies before you leave to let them know you will be in Argentina so they do not deny your transactions for fraud protection. Be careful with money/wallets in crowded areas or high tourist places. You will have a enjoyable time---Argentina is wonderful!

464train, we had our first trip to Argentina as a family last year and loved it. You are in for a treat - not only the beautiful country but also the people and food and energy.
I read your itinerary with your first post - and wonder how you are getting from point A to B to C? I ask because we wanted to go back this year for another holiday and could not find reasonable fares to get us to Ushuaia and the Glacier and Iguazu. What will be your mode of transportation?

We are flying. I won't say this is the least expensice option, but timewise how else would you make it? Airfare per person for the Argentina domestic travel is $842. We used a travel agency for the hotels, air travel and land tours. We scheduled in 3 days in BA for our own itinerary - and this is where we needed help in finding the best way to get to Campana.

I still haven't heard from the contact from avrooster. But I still have time!

However, he said he has not checked his e-mail for a couple of days, which is normal in Argentina (he may not have a computer at home) and promised to do so today and I'll call him again this afternoon, to find out whether or not he has received your message.

The cost is R/T and I understand it is a van in which you can all travel together, but write to him again, to make sure.

This is what his e-mail to me said: "Por llevarlos y traerlos de vuelta a Campana les cobraría pesos 300, incluyendo espera y peajes."

I was in Buenos Aires in January/2008 and had no problem in withdrawing up to US$ 1,000.00 in ATMs. I guess however this is only applicable if your card is affiliated to Cirrus.

I heard back from Mr. Santiago. The price he gave me for taking us out to Camapan and back is $90 US. Seems very reasonable to me, especially since he is willing to wait around and take us back. What do you say?

My husband and I are planning a 2 week stay in Buenos Aires in either Jan/Feb of 2009 - Has anyone rented an apartment in the city? There are numerous apartment rental agencies with photos of great apartments? Has anyone used any of these agencies?

If Mr. Santiago takes you to "Camapan", instead of to Campana, the trip maybe is not that cheap. LOL!!!

2) Post your question separately on this forum.

Well, I have fat fingers or too many thumbs sometimes when I type - always good for a laugh!
Johnathan (the one in BA) talked about spending the whole day in Campana and seeing more of the area! From what I can read on the site you sent it is a ranch? I think that would be great!
What is the usual for tipping for the driver and car? We want to be sure and treat him really well and be appreciative.......

It's a ranch that caters to tourists, but is not touristy, if you see what I mean.

Read those reviews and, if you are interested, e-mail me.

About the tipping, it is NOT mandatory, as it almost is for cabs in the US, but I'd suggest between 10 and 20%, IF you feel you have received good service.
