10 Days in Central America. Where should I go?

Hi everyone,

My friend and I are planning on flying into San Pedro Sula (it was the cheapest flight option) on December 5th and flying out December 14th, giving us 8 full non travel days. Does anyone have any ideas on where we should go? We're interested in Belize. Is it possible to do multiple countries in 8 days? Thanks in advance for your help!

Sorry - Belize is interesting but you won't have time for it this trip unless you fly which would totally wipe out any savings on the flights into SAP. Figure a day or 2 each way otherwise, costing you a huge chuck of your precious days.

You could head to the highlands of Guatemala but that's lots of time on the road and no blue water.

The good news is, Honduras is awesome! I'd bus from the airport to Copán Ruinas for 2 or 3 nights (cute town, beautiful Maya site, cool museums, good hiking, a nice bird park), then head back to San Pedro Sula and on (by bus/ferry or flight) to either Roatán or Utila. If you crave jungle adventure and don't mind moving around a lot, Omega Lodge outside of La Ceiba has great hiking, kayaking, rafting, and horse adventures.

Happy trails!

Spend all 8 days in Honduras. Copan, La Ceiba, Pico Bonito etc. Maybe a ferry to Roatan.

thanks those are both very helpful!! Belize is only a couple of hundred more to fly into. Would it be worth it to do that? Or is Honduras better?

I'd only do one country in 8 days, but since you said you're interested in Belize and if you can afford the couple of hundred dollars difference, why not just fly there? We've been to Belize a couple of times and thought it was amazing. You can do a nice combo of jungle and beach time if that interests you. We also went over to Tikal for the day to see the ruins.

We love both Belize and Honduras - pick 1 now and save the other for another trip. Keep in mind that Belize is likely to be more expensive in other ways (food, diving, snorkeling, hotels) than Honduras, too.
