Melnq8, thanks, I'll read your full review of the Radisson Blu.

Winterthur is, I think, a 15-minute train ride from Zurich. There are two fabulous art museums in Winterthur.

Melissa, if you want to get a "view" of Old Town Zurich, go to youtube and find one of Dennis Callan's video of the city. He is the president of the Hawaiian Geographical Society and he as made some very good videos on travel in Europe.

Thin, Thanks for the tips.

Woo-hoo! I'm sooo happy! It could be because I'm REALLY going to Switzerland. Or I might be happy because I just drank 2 very strong iced Vietnamese coffees from my favorite coffee joint. Weeeeeeeeeee! I'll be up all night now. I think I just had 6 "shots" of espresso!

I just booked 1 night at the Radisson Blu at the Zurich airport. They have a AAA discounted rate that is decent for Zurich prices. (Even cheaper would be paying the pay-in-advance-non-refundable rate but I decided I wanted more flexibility.) This way I got a pretty good price but with the rate I paid I am able to change nights or cancel if something unexpected happens.

The Romantik Hotel Florhof in Zurich was very enticing. It's in a more charming area of Zurich. They are also back on-line now I notice. But their standard rooms don't have A/C which may or may not have been a problem in July. Looks like a lovely hotel though. It was a tough decision.

But the Radisson Blu does have air conditioning and it is right at the airport...so convenient for that flight home. I went with 1 night since I don't really want to spend 2 nights at an airport hotel.

Now I've got to line up my itinerary because I think I have every night booked except for 1 night.

DINNER IN ZURICH:
Looks like we will have 1 late afternon & evening in Zurich. We will check into the Radisson Blu at the airport, then take the train into town for dinner and a pleasant walk in a charming area. Suggestions?

Our favorite places to eat are locally owned/family-run restaurants, when we can find them. We enjoy eating tasty fresh foods made with healthy ingredients. We enjoy trying local foods. We like a friendly, casually romantic atmosphere, NOT too stuffy, NOT too formal... We love fish, fresh vegies, meats & chicken, Italian food, spicy food, exotic spices... We prefer to pay whatever would be considered moderately priced for Zurich.

I will look up the restaurants people have recommended above. Any more recommendations? And if you could describe the location of the restaurant?

Many thanks!

Hmmmmm...I'm still torn between 1 or 2 nights in Zurich. I have every night booked now, except for 1 night. I haven't booked our next-to-last night in Switzerland yet. I can either end the trip with 2 nights in Zurich...or else I can add an additional night to Wengen, and have only 1 night in Zurich. So here is my itinerary, with hotels all booked except for that 1 missing night:

Fly LAX to Zurich
3 nights: Luzern
5 nights: Murren
5 nights: Wengen
1 or 2 nights: Zurich

I do have other posts discussing why I have so many nights in the gorgeous Berner Oberland/Murren/Wengen. But this post is helping me to decide between 1 or 2 nights in Zurich.

Right now I have the Radisson Blu at the Zurich airport booked for 1 night. I could add another night at the Radisson Blu. Then we'd have more time to see Zurich.

I wonder if I made the right decision in booking the Radisson Blu? It certainly seems convenient for catching our flight home without too much stress. It also sounds like a quiet hotel and it has air conditioning. But it's not going to be as charming as that boutique hotel I was considering in Zurich...the Romantik Hotel Florhof.

Does anybody else besides me have these indecisive moments, especially when a trip is nearly fully booked?
