Zurich Airport Hotel

Depends on your price range. I spent an unexpected night at the Zurich Airport Hilton -- I made the decision standing at the hotel phone bank at 9pm at night after arriving from Skopje [the day after the Kosovo bombing began] via an unexpected detour through Thessaloniki -- I had no swiss francs, I couldn't find an ATM so I needed a hotel with a free airport shuttle. And I was too tired to fight through another language so I wanted an international chain. Under those conditions, $300. for the last room available seemed quite reasonable.

There are, however, a number of cheaper hotels in the area

Maureen,
How about a village inn about 20 minutes by car from the airport instead? Take a look at www.loewen-dielsdorf.ch/englindex.htm

Maureen:

My husband and I stayed at the Novotel, Talackerstrasse 21, Glattbrugg, Switzerland 81. FAX 41 1 829 99 99. Phone 41 1 810 31 11. It was quite reasonably priced, clean and a reasonably sized room with good bath. There was a restaurant on site--food okay, not great, but was convenient for two tired travelers.

The staff was very pleasant and helpful. When we arrived in Zurich early morning from the US we opted to stay up (we generally do)and they arranged a city tour for us.

Free shuttle to and from the airport. This was 2-3 years ago, but assuming it hasn't changed we would stay there again under similar circumstances.

j

We just stayed at the airport Hilton (unexpectedly due to Swiss Air going bankrupt as we were waiting to board a ZRH-BOS flt.), and it was quite nice. They have a nice breakfast buffet (about $20EACH), and a shuttle that takes you from/to the airport in about 5 mins. Switzerland is expensive, so you can't expect to find many bargains.
