Zurich Airport - can we expect to use euro?
We have a connection from the US through Zurich airport. I'd forgotten Switzerland is not a euro country. Can we expect to use euro to pay for food or drink or sundries there at the airport? (Or credit cards even if for a small amount?) We have euro on hand from previous trips but as our connection time is not long do not want to have to take time and cost to exchange for Swiss franc if not necessary.

My experience has been that they took Euro at the exchange rate they decided and gave me the changes in Swiss Franc.
For small purchase, the convenience is probably the key objective, so whatever inefficiencies exists in converting currencies is probably not worth thinking about.
The cashier till convert the cost in Swiss Franc into Euro. Try to use the amount closes to the exact change to minimum getting back Swiss franc if you don't care to take them home

As already stated they will indeed take the € or the USD. I used my credit card even for very small purchases, such as chocolate bars. Using credit cards not only gives you a good rate of exchange but you will not get any unwanted Swiss change.

As everyone said above, yes you can use Euro -- but at a rate advantageous to them, not you. And you'll get your change in Swiss Franc.
Why not just take half a second and get 50 chf from an ATM?

There are no *small amounts* for food and drink at ZRH
Agreed. One of the reasons (along with stupid security setup, inadequate HVAC, poor food offerings, and generally boring 'amenities') that I dislike ZRH airport.

Why worry about the fx rate for a CHF15 meal at Burger King or a CHF3 soda? Any purchase where the fx rate would make a difference would be one where a credit card is the obvious choice. I would certainly not take out any CHF, unless I was leaving the airport.
