I guess one thing I'm failing to understand is this. Obviously Ziana can post whatever she wants and we can all post whatever we want. But I guess I'm having trouble understanding the reasoning behind all this. She posts on Fodor's asking for advice and then writes back to basically trash Fodorites and gloats about this whole thing. Wouldn't it be better to just tone it down a bit?

It's quite one thing to say, "I didn't like Paris." It's quite another thing to say, "I hated the crepes, and I can't understand why Fodorites would like crepes."

Just wondering. Not that I really care, especially since I never posted any advice for Ziana (regarding crepes or Banyuls or Notre Dame or otherwise).

Well, your sense of humor is "interesting" -- here're some quotes:

"We brought bread and Banyuls (was that wine Fodorite's joke? It was awfull !!!)"

"I was like ?my fodorites must be crazy to RAVE about blintzes with Nutella ????"

etc.

And you adore this forum? Somehow I'm not seeing your adoration.

Of course you adore this Forum because there're people who respond to you and put you in the spotlight. I won't any longer (especially if I never offered any advice), but I look forward to reading future "trip reports/I'm so superior to Fodorites reports."

Poor soul, you envy my spotlight?
Get yourself yours. Turn on green light, please.
When I said:
"my fodorites must be crazy to RAVE about blintzes with Nutella "
the key word was "my" as if you say "my Sally is nuts" - everyone but you, 111op will feel "she loves that Sally".

"was that wine Fodorite's joke? It was awfull !!!" - only professional party pooper will find this offensive, and proof was that no ONE but you was upset over this. So, please, find yourself tutor on sense of humor.

No, I was not in the least bit offended, since I did not offer the advice given. I was merely attempting to be somewhat objective.

I could say a couple of (perhaps speculative) things about you, but I won't bother because I doubt that you'll get it, and it will just develop into a useless shouting match that benefits no one. So this will be my last word on the subject.

I wish you well in your future trips.

Note: I didn't start it.

I would be very happy to close subject as well and wish you all the best in your future endeavours (whatever it means).

Hugs

Ok, I guess not quite the last word. Yes, technically you didn't start it. But you were obviously (?) being provocative in what you wrote.

But well, I'm bored enough to be responding to this. Worry not though-- I'll find something else to do, like brushing up on my sense of humor.

It's pretty odd to provok single individual out of whole bunch.
Is that possible to provoke someone who do not want to be provoked ? Isn't it pretty provokative question.

Happy brushing 111op.
Need help - yell !
Yours Ziana

Well, you're not "picked out." You're the one who wrote the trip report, remember? So naturally you've everyone's attention. A bit like why people point fingers at Bush, but Bush says, "Oh, why pick on me?" He's the President, so why not?

Ok, I did say it was my last word. It's been fun.

JoeG...

You sexy thing! I love it when you call me OT...

I am up....ok, I gotta whisper, so give me your ear...

I am up because on Thursdays at the crack of dawn I play golf with the guys.

I am also packing...I am short a few undergarments so I just might have to go on over to Victorias Secret...AGAIN!

I am posting...why? I was trying to lure you back to me...it worked!

I can play with you and other fodor folks for about an hour or so...in between packing because on Thursdays I have my weekly Travel Lunch and cocktails with the girls.

They think me crazy for fooling around on these boards...I forward them some of the threads for laughs...

Well, enough about me...giggle!

Joe G...honey, Thanks for asking...do you check on all of your cyber-girlfriends or just me?

Truly Yours Forever,
Oaktown Traveler

Funny Ziana satisfies the yuk need of a few, also lets one or two pontficate about themselves. But taste-test-time: who in their right mind would actually use any of Z's meanderings to plan a trip to Paris? And yikes, she's declared Italy as her next target.

I wonder what Paris thinks about Ziana.

I suppose that I was getting a little too familiar with the "OT" thing. Sorry. Can you fault a guy? I mean , "the Flask", "Victoria Secret", and now "golf with the guys".
A fella can only resist so long!

111op,
don't be a stranger, visit us while with tutor ... just don't post until you are hillarious !
SoBe,
you don't really think Paris will answer, do you ? You make me nervous.
I asked before if everyone on this board were checked for rabbies prior to registration and I received list and I think you were on it. Were you?

Well Z., you've set such a high standard for hilarity that my tutor says that I'll be hard pressed to match. All I can promise, though, is that I won't post to your thread until I'm hilarious (ok, I promise). But obviously, I'll continue to feel free to post to Fodor's.

Well..unfair or not, I certainly can easily imagine Ziana having such an experience.

Honestly, these would be my "nightmare vacations" : spending a lot of time camcording various things, wandering into uninteresting places (the Bastille monument,..a Monoprix????..), eating crappy food, staying two hours in line to visit a monument, etc...

However I think it's for a large part Ziana's fault, or perhaps Ziana's choices which are weirdly different from mine. There are plenty of things she did I would never do (like the aformentionned 2 hours stand in line for something I'm not *extremely* interested in, for instance), or expectations which were unrealistic given her choices (how, except by sheer luck, could could expect a fine and pleasant french meal when wandering in a random chinese restaurant when it's about to close? Buying food in a district like the Latin quarter which is reputated for its crapy tourist-food? Though in this latter case, she could not have known). What kind of extraordinary cultural experience could one expect wandering into a supermarket?

So, once again she made dubious choices in my opinion (though perhaps more akin to her definition of "vacations" than mine). She was unimpressed by the Bastille? Who ever said that this was an interesting spot? It's a roundabout with a column planted in the middle. Big deal. What the point in ranting about the "statues in orgasmic poses"? If she isn't interested in arts, she should have just ignored the Louvre, period (or visited whatever in it she find more interesting than "statues in orgasmic poses&quot. What the point in complaining about food if you eat only it in a chain restaurant (hippopotamus), a chinese restaurant about to close, and a place in the most obvious tourist-trap of the city? Why complaining about Banyuls being an awful wine, since it's not even a wine to begin with?

Honestly, I can't see, given the choices made by the OP, how the trip wouldn't have been dissapointing (at least, it would have obviously be so for me).

On the other hand, I definitely recognize Paris in her description. The bastille is unimpressive? Yes, definitely. Restaurants in the Latin quarter can be terrible? Absolutely. There's nothing special about Monoprix? True. The view from Notre-Dame towers aren't worth 2 hours (or even half an hour) standing in line? Definitely true.
Paris isn't colorfoul? No, it isnt (IMO at leat)...etc, etc, etc...

So, what can I say? She *did* visit the Paris I know. She probably didn't make the best of her visit, though, either due to poor choices, or to weird preferences/expectations. And it's not like someone who just don't really liked a place (I'm not very fond of paris myself). She really seems to have made poor decisions (which doesn't mean that she would have loved Paris othertwise). While reading her post, I was wondering all the time : "why on earth did she do this? Why did she go there? How could she have expected that to be pleasant?", etc...

That's actually why I posted. Many times I read trip report about paris which were criticals. Some were plain stupid and off-base. Some criticisms were on the point. Some people just didn't like the place because it's not the king of place/experience they like.

But this trip report is really peculiar in the sense that once again it really describes Paris (if we except gratuitous silly comment like about the Louvre museum) but at the same time i can't help thinking "what a total mess of a vacation!".

clairobscur,
exactly my point, but if you remember it would be mess if it wasn't saved by beautifull Hamburg !!! For 7 days we were happy !

I appreciate your time spent to analyse my report. I've learned from it. Do you remember how some posters adored Monoprix ? Do you think I have a chance to become "A Traveler", I didn't like it!!! and wondered in simply because I read about it here. Checked out.
