Zermatt - Hotels ?

My husband was in Zermatt a few years ago by himself - he said it was so romantic and can't wait to bring me there. When he was there he noticed hotels having horse drawn carriages picking the guests up at the train station - do you know what hotels these are ? Plus any recommendations ? We are trying to book our trip for next March. Thanks

Wow, this must've been really romantic!

Never noticed any horses anywhere in Zermatt. Just electric taxis.

Not every hotel does this and I'm not certain that all the Seiler hotels do it, either. They might even have those horse/wagon outfits moving back and forth between their various hotels in the village and the railroad station.

I know that the Mont-Cervin and the Zermatterhof provide horse-drawn carriages, perhaps the Monte Rosa does so as well.

But honestly, I wouldn't let a 10 min. carriage ride dictate my choice of hotel. If you're looking for something secluded yet luxurious, check out the Riffelalp resort. A pleasant yet more affordable alternative to the deluxe properties is the Mirabeau.

For the Mont-Cervin, Monte Rosa and Riffelalp:

For the Zermatterhof:

For the Mirabeau:

By the way, March is ski season - do you ski? If not, summer (July through September) is a much better time to visit.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Andre is right. if you don't ski go there in july or august. I have another suggestion for you: Alpenhof
http://www.zermatt.com/hotelalpenhof...hofsummer.html It has no horses but very very good food. And you can see the Matterhorn. Have a look at it's home page please.

If March is when you can go to Zermatt, go in March. So what if you don't ski? You can still take the Gornergrat cogway up for breathtaking views.

Zermatt is designed for the traveler. When you arrive at the train station, there is a big hotel display matrix with buttons next to each hotel that will connect you without having to dial.
