Suggestions needed please for a good youth hostel in London. I believe there is quite a variation in standards between them. Have heard some are terrible. After a quiet location. It doesn't need to be in central London provided its close to a tube.

What's your budget for your sojourn in London - I'm quite sure that you could manage to find an hotel to suit your needs.

..whoops wish i could remember the specifics but friends stayed at a university residence and were very pleased..was in the "youth hostel"price range..if you are going in the summer you might consider this..i think they initially found this on the internet..wish my recollections werent so vague..

Check the Hostels forum on www.eurotrip.com. Also, www.bugeurope.com has some terrific hostel reviews--I always use it.

I stayed in the hostel at Holland Park thirteen years ago. It was fine then (wouldn't be happy at a hostel now, enjoy my sleep too much)and the location was delightful. Right at the park, nice grounds.

This is actually a question for a friend so I'm not sure how much she is willing to pay, but it would definitely be after something fairly cheap. She is planning to be away for quite some time so needs to keep the accommodation costs to a miniumum. She is very well travelled and so is used to having put up with just OK accommodation. She is one of those who consider that spending a lot of money on accommodation is a waste, you have a room to go to sleep in and save the money for sightseeing, restaurants etc. Having said that, she would certainly still be trying to get the best she can in her price range. Incidentally she will probably be in London end of September, early October.

I was going to suggest university dorms - but if your friend isn't traveling until end of Sept-Oct, I think the dorm option is out, as school will be back in session.
