Yes there are lots of people in August in St Ives and it does perhaps suffer a bit from the number of pasty and fudge shops but if you vere into the back streets you will still discover a world that has inspired many artists (and obviously socialworker too!).

Plus you can start your walk on the cliffs from St Ives - head for Porthmeor Beach where the Tate Gallery is - walk to the bowls club (not ten pin bowling - this pursuit is mainly done by older people) then follow the footpath that will take you on past Clodgy Five Points and Seal Island. You could if you were really fit walk all the way (6 miles) to the charming village of Zennor but usually a couple of the headlands will give you all the fresh air you need.

Lands End is now a rather tacky theme park displaying one of nature's wonders (think Niagara Falls)- that is perhaps why you are not getting a ringing endorsement for it. However it is accessible by bus and will give you the photo opportunity of the sign showing New York 3147 miles and of course the views and rocks still will be there.

Thanks for the feedback. So where would you recommend to go for the best coastal cliff walks?

rajshiv: A hint for the future - see the gold/yellow star and envelope symbols at the top of the thread? They are how you can save/bookmark (the star) a thread or e-mail (the envelope) it to yourself.

I did not know that either, janis. That is what I get for not paying attention! Thanks.
