you're lucky. air france is waaaay better than delta. make you seat selection with AF but first go to AF"s website and find out what type of plane you'll be on and then go to seatguru.com, look up the seating chart and hope for the best.

While we all trash the airlines..... Consider the price we are paying for these tickets. In inflation adjusted dollars it cost less to fly to Europe now then 20 years ago. (And the airlines cost are considerably higher!)

Americans have shown that while we all complain about service, room, meals...etc. as a general rule when it comes buying airfare price wins out.

Delta and its partners go everywhere we like (western Europe). FFM are good deal. We use Delta partner AF mostly.

Problem I have with all airlines is leg room and seats that go all the way back. How any one can sleep in the sardine-can environment amazes me. It is a hurdle to be borne unless you can afford first class.

I have no problem with flying Delta, my problem is with their booking. I purchased a ticket to Venice in November for a flight in April, well in advance as my huusband was using frequent flyer miles and we wanted to be assured of seats on the same flight. The booking agent assured me that should the price go down, there would be no fee to secure the lower fare, I would be issued a voucher for the difference. Today I found that the fare had gone down by $125. I called and was put on hold three times for a total of over a half hour. Finally I reached a gentleman who told me that the fee was $200 making me ineligible for a voucher. I told him that I had been assured that such was not the case. I had specifically asked the question because I was booking so far in advance. He said I misunderstood, end of discussion. I asked if he had a supervisor and he said he was the supervisor. It seems that it is impossible for someone at Delta to make a mistake. Even if you have the name of the agent, without something in writing, you are dead in the water.

Seatguru doesn't have seat maps for Air France. The plane used on PHL-CDG is the Airbus 330-200, with 2-4-2 seating in Y.

[Delta uses 763 on its CVG/JFK-CDG route. While I generally like 767's 2-3-2 seating, I've read that DL's 763s are old. Old means bad seat cushions, seat back that reclines more than usual (not yours but the seat in front of you), small overhead bins, malfunctioning audio system, etc.]

My experience is that many airlines outside the US don't have advanced seat assignments, or they don't have the same INTERPRETATIONS of what advanced seat assignments mean. Maybe AF is better, or maybe not. Doesn't hurt to call both DL and AF, repeatedly if necessary, to get seats assigned.

My fiancé and I have had a long distance relationship, and as a result, we've both spent an inordinate amount of time on airplanes between the west and east coasts. For some reason, we've ended up on Delta probably 70% of the time. We're young, don't want to spend much money, and all we care about is getting from place to place as quickly and cheaply as possible with as little hassle as possible. We've had nothing but good experiences with Delta. We've changed flights, rebooked, etc. and have experienced fabulous customer service. No, they don't have the greatest food or a lot of legroom, but I don't think they are better or worse than other domestic coach flights.

After an experience I had last weekend with American, I am well on my way to becoming a faithful Delta flier.

I called AF and they told me I need to get seat assignment from Delta. I called them and got a fairly good seat assignment. Two seats on the outside near window not too far back.

Fair is fair. Yesterday I reported that a Delta supervisor told me that although the agent who sold me my ticket to Venice had told me that a voucher would be issued if the price went down, I had misunderstood. Today I called again and got a different very nice supervisor who said she would send me a voucher for the difference and confirm it by email. I don't know who made the mistake, but Delta was very gracious today about rectifying the mistake.
Sometimes it pays to try again. Thanks Delta.
