Just setting here thinking of our next trip to Paris and trying to think of some different sights to see and taste. I was just reading an article on Les Abeilles, a bee boutique that sells all things bee related including yummy honey. This made me think of all the other small food boutiques in Paris. I would love to hear about some of your favorite stores and how to find them. (Something smaller than La Grande Epicerie de Paris.)

Oh, I think the streets devoted to food shops - rue cler - comes to mind right now are the most interesting.

There is an amazing "grocery" store behind the Hôtel de Ville, going toward Bastille. Someone else might have more specific information.

Besides Lavender honey but that I bring back from Provence, their heather honey(Bruyeres) is wonderful that I use for cooking. And in Monmartre if it's still there, A La Mere De Famile, candies and such from all over France.and don'rt foret the Boutique Maille thst features all kinds of mustard and mustard products. The beautiful hand painted jars make great gifts to take home.

Hediard and Fauchon are too procey and too plastic! Anyone can slap a fancy label on a bottle. La Grande Epicerie is nice and has some wonderful things, but there are no deals to be had here. I also like the food market at Galleries Lafayette. They have a great selection.

My favorite?

I always go to the Monoprix near Au Printemps. They have a grocery store in the basement where you can find some great jams, spices, mustards and tons of other french stuff. They also have a great dept with toiletries, soaps and the works! You can't beat the prices!

We love the Hediard tea - sold in what I swear are silk teabags. Very cool.

Posts crossed... Also huge fans of Monoprix - plastic jars of dried forest mushrooms for €3 - perfect for stuffing in your suitcase.

Does Lafayette Gourmet count? I like this one.

Agree about that particular Monoprix. It is a cut above others. They even sell some Fauchon labels. And you can get dried morels--for a bit more than the 3€. For foie gras I go to the Pl Monge market on Sundays.
But even the neighborhood supermarche is a good place to shop. I get big chocolate bars there to bring back.

I just love to come across the small specialty stores and will look up some of the ones mentioned. brinabelle the contact information given for the store was 21 rue de la Butte-aux-Cailles, 75013 Paris (subway: Place d'Italie). Is LaMere De Famile the store where the Madam who own the store has dressed in the same school girl uniform for years? I would love to add more stores to my list, keep them coming!

The pull-out guide in the center of "This City Paris" magazine is focused on "the best food shops in Paris". Mine came in the mail yesterday but I haven't had time to open it yet.

I think that Dehillerin is closer to Rue Rivoli than to the Opera. It's probably in the 1st arr.
