Young in Rome
My boyfriend and I are going to be in Rome for a week. I have been before, but only with my parents and was wondering of things that people ages 18-25 are interested in doing, besides all of the standard touristy stuff. I dont know too much about the nightlife and the youth scene in Rome and was wondering if anyone had any input. Thanks so much!!

The thing that I found to be wonderful about Rome was, it seemed when the sun went down everyone..and I mean EVERYONE came out. The cafes and restaurants were full, there were people everywhere around all the fountains and in the piazzas..and they were NOT all tourists. I especially noticed a lot of young people, just hanging out, flirting etc. I really thought it was just too fun. I think here in the states we tend to "cacoon" more. go to our houses and shut everything out for our quiet and privacy. However, I live in the "burbs" and not directly in a city so I may be wrong..maybe the cities: NY, Chcago, SF etc. are more like Rome. Why don't you try to google perhaps "night clubs in Rome" etc. and see what comes up?

Crefloors, as you know my daughter & SIL just returned home from almost a month in Rome. And they said the same thing. Rachael, people congregate in piazza's - it is not like in the US. You will not have any problem finding the youth scene in Rome. Have fun!

I agree. My teenagers drolled over the fun the youth in both Rome and Paris were having. No staying home playing computer games for them! We stayed near Campo de Fiori and at night (even week nights) the teens and 20-somethings would starting flooding into the area. They eat and drink at the cheaper, stand-up kind of places (wine bars, they're called). There was a lot of beer drinking right out in the piazza (and lots of empty bottles all over). There were also LOTS of cops at night. Flirting seemed to be the main activity. One night there was movie showing in nearby Piazza Farnese. Chairs were set up neatly, the aisle had carpet, and everything. Looked like mostly adults watching it though. (And it was in Italian.) You will have a great time. It's a romantic place.

Yes, Italians use their public spaces as an extension living room. A nice lifestyle.
Rachael, there is a "beach" that opened up along the Tiber River in Rome. It is where the Castel Sant'Angelo is. Sand was brought in and there are restaurants, bars even showers etc. Imagine you will find that a lot of fun and something different. Paris does that also.
I would think that you will get into conversations with Italians in your age group and will find out where the "hot spots" are. You will get better ideas than we here can give you.
Enjoy La dolce vita!! BTW, guess you are at Davis? I am in Vacaville. Wishes to the two of you for a beautiful and fun time in Rome!
