Young children in Madrid and Malaga
We are traveling with a 4-year-old and a 7-year-old to Madrid and Malaga in September. Can anyone suggest activities and places that might be fun for them? I thought about Retiro Park for the boats in the lake there, but not much else. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Maybe Maribel will have ideas, she knows that area well.
Malaga had a maritime museum but I think it closed, which is too bad.
It depends on their interests, I don't think 4 year olds can do much but play. But if the 7 yr old has any interest in museum or instruments, they do have some kid stuff at the interactive music museum. They have some kid programs but I think they are more for locals and have to be reserved, etc. But the website shows some interactive playing thing there at the bottom which a young child

Maybe the imagination museum? again more for the older young, could be scary for a too young kid
Museum
Of course there are various beach areas there, I imagine that would be fine in September. There are some not far from the very center. I suppose La Malagueta would be best.

Málaga has a ferris wheel, a noria, facing the water, and of course the beach of La Malagueta, where the kids can run and play. Take them to have churros and chocolate at Casa Aranda and ice cream at Casa Mira. The Museo de la Música is a good idea from Christina.
In Madrid the kids might enjoy the new-ish Museo de Ilusiones at Calle Doctor Cortezo 8.

And the Zoo-Aquarium in the Casa de Campo plus the Amusement Park, Parque de Atracciones. In Sept. it opens on weekends.

There´s the National Museum of Science and Technology, Museo Nacional de Cienca y Tecnología (MUNCYT). Here it has numerous activities for children.
There´s a new children's playground in the renovated Plaza de España for the little one.
Take them for churros and chocolate at Chocolatería San Ginés.
And if you can endure long lines on weekends there are paddle boats to rent on the Estanque (artificial lake) in Retiro Park. And in Retiro Park on weekends there are puppeteers at the Teatro de Títeres.
