You Find a Bottle on the Beach

You rub the sand off and a Genie comes out of the bottle and says....
"You have 2 wishes:
1-you can go anywhere in the world - that you have not been to before.
2-you can take one person with you

So, what will your answer be?
And why?

Hi Scarlett, well believe it or not it would be Paris! As you know I have never been there but since being on Fodor's and reading all the reports including yours I know I would love it.

Who would I bring? Hmmmm, that is a good question. Must I answer, LOL. Know what, I would bring my dear friend that lives in the region of Veneto. First of all she has only been to France once in her life and I know she wants to go there again but her husband doesn't like to travel to far from home. The other reason is that she and I travel together so well and enjoy all the same things from food, shopping, museums, art, walking and exploring side streets etc. She is relaxing to be with and fun. And (this is important IMHO) she speaks French!!! That would be a big help, LOL. Although she is Italian she was educated by French nuns in Italy.

Great question Scarlett, that really had me thinking there for a few minutes. And generally I don't think on Friday nights. CinCin!

I was debating on whether I would go to Corsica, which would be a "safe" choice, or Instanbul, which is more of a wild card. Decided to be adventurous, since it's on the house (does the Genie know I'd like to try first class on this trip?). I like the way Istanbul is Europe meeting Asia. It sounds so exotic! I'm not exactly sure what I'd think of Istanbul, but what is the purpose of travel if not to make you think outside the box (especially when Genie is taking care of all the details ). I think it would be fun to explore a place that is unlike any I've ever seen. I'd bring my husband because he has an excellent sense of direction and a lively interest in other places and people. And he rolls with the punches, too, which is a good trait to have when you're in unfamiliar terrain!

Italy with a side trip to Greece.

My best friend from high school wants to go to Italy with me next year. I GUESS I could drag her to Greece too!

Thanks, Genie!

Hey Genie, we all have a few questions! The flight is in first class correct? And the hotel is 5 star? And unlimited money (or an ATM card will be fine) for restaurants, shopping, museum passes, taxi's (note we are not going overboard and insisting on a limo)etc. And the Genie's TA will make all the travel arrangements, right? I "assumed" this was the case but we would like verification. Cin,cin.

Africa and I would bring my sister. Everything I have seen of Africa sounds amazing and I would bring my sister because she couldn't afford herself and she has been through a tough time lately and she deserves some R&R.

Hmmm, since I'm a mom with a little grunion at home, I can't exactly play along fairly. I'd want both my husband AND the baby to come, and I'd probably be a party pooper and want to go somewhere I'd been before. I guess I'm not that adventurous...

Given that, my wish would be to go inside the genie's bottle, and the person I'd take with me would be the genie... hoping I'd be able to trick her into a few more wishes along the way.

Another take on this, I'd go to Spain (my grandmother's ancestral home) with my grandmother (who passed away 4 years ago). She was always saying she'd like to go to Spain and Portugal, but we never made it.

Now, dear Scarlett, do tell. What's your answer, and why? Inquiring minds want to know.

Egypt. First to Cairo and then cruise the nile. Love the history and want to see the incredible things they were able to build. My husband would accompany me as always! Wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks Scarlett--it's fun seeing what everyone comes up with.

I tried to play strictly by the rules:

The genie did not specify you would have good weather

The genie did not offer an upgrade to First Class on the plane

The genie offered only transport and your choice of companion -- hotel and meals not included

It got me so fretful and depressed I was ready to chuck it all

Anyway I chose South Africa.

I guess my chosen companion would be Nelson Mandela as he is old and cannot travel here to meet me -- yet can still open doors in SA.

Otherwise Archbp. Tutu, whose garrulity would keep dinner conversation from flagging.

Vietnam.
My oldest son.

He mentioned Vietnam as a travel destination not too long ago and I was a bit surprised. But thinking about it further, and knowing what I know about him as a person, it would be a fabulous travel destination for him.

Scarlett, can I have another wish, please?

Kyoto, Japan to see the famous and fabulous zen gardens. With my husband.

I interpret "you can go" as including all to make it possible. On a trans-Pacific flight for two "over sixty's" I interpret that as at least economy plus

Well, thank you, Ms Genie, it is fun to consider your question. I am assuming as do most of the other posters this trip will be first class. Surely, genies don't do coach!
I think it would be Greece for me. Second choice, would be southern Chile and Argentina (is that actually two choices?). Third choice would be Norway. I always want my husband to go with me; but, he doesn't really love to travel. If he won't go, I would love to take my pups....
You know what, Genie? It occurs to me there is no reason not to go even without my two wishes. Life is short, travel on!

...this is a toughie...I would like to go to Antarctica, Japan, and New Zealand....but I think my final answer right now would be Florence, Italy. I am so engrossed in art and history, I really feel like I would be so inspired and blown away by it all...P.S. side trip to Tuscany please.

1. Australia (diving by the Great Barrier Reed, shopping in Sidney) with a side trip to New Zealand (taking a road trip to visit all of the local wineries along the coast).

2. I will take a friend of mine, who's also a co-worker, because he's adventurous, open minded, he's 6'2" so I can use him to get us exit seats in the plant, and finally he's going to be pleasant for me to look at during our 24+ hrs flight or so

Good Morning!

In the Old Days, Genies just blinked or nodded their heads and you were there. These days, they offer First Class All the Way ~

lyb, Genie might have a bonus for you!

Oh ira ~

My Wishes:
I would go to Japan.
There is quite a bit I need to see to catch up on what has entranced my son these past 5 years.
I want to meet the people that have charmed him these past years, as well as find places and memories for myself, that will last in my heart for years .
I will bring along the man who has accompanied me on all of my adventures since I was 20 yrs old, my Yankee.
Now the perfect Genie would let a Pup come along too so we all cannot have Everything, I guess

Israel and Jordan.
George Clooney.

Second choice:
Beaches of Thailand
George Clooney.

If the genie can't pull off the Israel/Jordan trip, I will compromise and to go Thailand. But Clooney is non-negotiable.

Sicily and with my mother.

The genie would have to give her a magic chair, because she can not walk.

Now would be the perfect time too, regardless of health (82)because her mind is in the right place. Her parents left Sicily and never saw their families again (were so sick in steerage that they never wanted to go through that again) with 2 kids and she was the 3rd born (first born in the USA). She, nor any of her 5 siblings have ever gone back. Some of their children and many of their grandchildren have.

Now I think she would not be so afraid and would enjoy it and feel SO connected. As she is.
