Nope - The Stone Roses micturate all over those hambones. And the Beatles are better than the stone roses.
"Winchester Cathedral" was written by a yank who was on the archeological dig on the site where he Wessex Hotel now stands (possibly the greatest architectural act of vandalism known to mankind now that Paternoster Square has been flattened).
Also Bob mentioned Bo Diddley - who is dying right now (stroke). Which is a shame.

Audere, you can add Jeff Beck, BB King, Frank Zappa, Mark Knopfler, the now dead Ali Farka Toure and my all time favorite Jerry Garcia. All better then Eric Clapton. What ever happened to Blind Faith anyway? Weren't they supposed to become the next best thing?

Now there's TWO things to agree with farce about. Am I getting all milly molly mandyish in my old age?
The Wessex Hotel - where, oddly, I last stayed for this year's Mayor's Ball. Maybe not THE worst piece of vandalism ever (Tricorn Centre?). But farce may well have a point: probably the worst still standing.

There's another hotel in the same chain that ruins Worcester Cathedral too.
At least they knocked the Tricorn Centre down. Now thhe ugliest building in England must be my office - it is staggeringly ugly (and leaks and is mouldy).

Funny thing about cathedral towns.
They've almost kept the area immediately round Gloucester cathedral OK. But go more than about 50 yards and it starts looking like Kirkby.
In fairness, Winchester's close to OK: the walk from the Wessex Hotel to the station is almost devoid of crap once you've put the hotel out of sight - and there are few other provincial cities in England you can walk that far and say that.

Paternoster Sq - bout the only good thing Charles can claim to have done, being the catalyst i think for destruction of that modern blight.
tis a pity that flanner et farce think rock's peak was with I Wanna Hold Your Hand! flanner i can understand but farce went to Public School so no defense there.
The Who i think were the quintessential British rock group - may have started in suits but quickly reverted to their old Acton and Shepherd's Bush sartorial norm - the forerunner of loud brash rock - and a real working class band - i've stayed for periods in East Acton and it's gritty. nothing cute just loud rock and roll - the music of the soul that good time rock and roll.
David Hasselhof is one of Simon Cowell (sp/)'s very best friends - expect a Hasselhof revival - another case of someone who was much more popular abroad than in US where no one even know he sang - but they love him in Geramny.
Well enough blathering and incoherence, back to somedayinparis for eloqution lessons (that zinger flanner was so clever - one of your best)

audere esst farce and flameruk:
Last night the first person to win three spots in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with three different groups was
drum rolllllllllllllllll
Eric Clapton - being inducted for guitarist on his solo album after already being honored for his greatness with two other groups - Cream and Traveling Wilderberries (sp?) so i guess someone thinks he's a fab guitarist!

The TRavelling Willburys is a vanity project with Clapton, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Dylan Geoof Lynne and Roy Orbison. Quite why they are in the hall of fame I have no idea.
For John Myall's Bluesbreakers or the yardbirds I could understand - but not this.

I'm not enough of a guitar aficianado to know whether Eric Clapton is one of the best or mediocre but i've always liked his steady demeanor - no hysterionics or weird hair styles or sartorial look - always looks like a common bloke - kind of like a banker - all the way to the bank.
