You can see something in just a day, but a night spent there would be better. The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European Timetable. Table 55 shows that you can take trains thus: Dresden main station 0546, Wroclaw 1025 to 1737, Dresden 2217. But better might be Dresden main station 0546 or Dresden Neustadt 1158, Wroclaw 1025 or 1625, overnight stay, Wroclaw 1737, Dresden 2217. All these trains have buffet cars.

There?s easily enough to fill two days: see http://gopoland.com/wheretogo/wroclaw/sights/ for places, and http://gopoland.com/wheretogo/wroclaw/museums/ for museums.

The Monopol hotel is centrally placed, the city?s oldest, and Hitler?s favourite, the Monopol. A single without breakfast there is 51 euros a night: see http://www.orbis.pl/hot_mon.html
There are plenty of other mid-range hotels: see http://www.inyourpocket.com/Poland/Wroclaw_hotels.shtml

My wife and I just returned from a week's travel in Poland that included Wroclaw. It's a great city, enough off the beaten track that it's not overrun by (western) tourists. Very charming, quite sophisticated in many ways, and very inexpensive. We gave it a very full day (arriving the night before, leaving the day after). DO NOT MISS the botantical garden. It's THE very best my wife and I have ever seen. As great as the Fodor's guide is (and we loved it), it's failure to mention this enormous and gorgeous "garden" is a serious omission.

Other contributors have given you some good answers. This is just an "oh by the way" bit of info for you. The pronunciation of Wroclaw is "VRO-clav." The w's in Polish are pronounced like English V's. If you already knew, I apologize. Anyway, you will love the city if you go. Enjoy your trip

My son lived there for several months. He says it pronounced "VRO-suave". The first syllable is accented and the second syllable is just like the word suave (i.e., gracious, sophisticated).

The w is pronounced v. The c is pronounced s. The l has a bar across it and is pronounced w. That gives you VRO-suave.

Wroclaw..wonderful city. Before or after the Rotunda visit the Museum/Gallery across the street. You may think it is better. Check your access to rotunda..tickets are for specific times. A special fee if you want to take photographs. I still like Spis! GStreed
