My son and his partner are in Iceland at the moment, having flown with Wow. They have managed to book a new flight home, thank goodness, but can ill afford the extra expense.

Wow was selling tickets right up until the moment it was declared bankrupt, so you could still buy a ticket at 7 am today, proving them to be morally as well as financially bankrupt.

It would have been nice to give 30 days notice and hopefully encourage last minute bargain hunters to fill some of the seats they might otherwise lose. But the other day, we saw that one of their planes had been seized in Canada. Sometimes, businesses are relying on banks and other investors to keep things going and then the dominos fall all of a sudden. We had one good experience with them at a super low price and with nice planes and smiling and attentive throwback unformed flight attendants, it felt like a more upscale operation than the cost implied.

Cranky Flier has been predicting its demise for some time.

Sympathy to all the people stranded!

Hope this isn't a sign of things to come for budget airlines.....
