USAirways is having a great sale to Brussels right now from a whole bunch of US cities (starting at $389 from east coast cities, up to $459 from the west coast -- not including the pretty hefty taxes) for August & September travel, and you can save $10 by booking online. I can't do this because I already have tickets to Italy (woo hoo!), but I thought maybe some of you Fodorites might want to take advantage. You can leave Sundays to Thursdays, between August 12 and September 6, and come back Tuesdays to Saturdays, between August 21 and September 15. The sale ends July 19. I flew USAirways to Brussels using a similar sale fare in May & it worked out well as a jumping-off point for Paris & Bruges. By the way, they are also having a promotion where if you book one of these fares you can also save on Eurostar tickets. Hope someone can benefit from this... <BR>

They better lower the prices. Who wants to pay full price for a second rate airline to one of the most boring European cities? And good luck getting a decent hotel room in any of the nearby cities like Amsterdam.

I agree with Thomas. Not sure if $389 is a bargain on US Air or if I'd bother with Brussels when there are so many other better places to see in Europe. And at this last minute, you're not likely to get decent lodging in any of the fun cities.

Used US Air in June. Everything went well, good service, decent food. Belgium was a delight to visit. Clean, friendly people, almost everone spoke English (except down by the French border.) Would return in a heartbeat to see more. Enjoyed Brugge and Brussels MUCH more than Paris. Public transportation was excellent.

I have used USAirways to Europe also and have no complaints. If I were considering right now however, I would try to find out the implications of a United buyout on these tickets. If United doesn't buy USAir, how quickly can USair go bankrupt (USair has been posting losses for many a quarter) and what would happen to any tickets you were holding?

I seriously doubt they will go under before you would take the trip. (Have you paid much attention to TWA's demise?) We went to Italy in May and the plane was fabulous. Even in coach you have personal entertainment systems. Food was OK for airline food. Service was excellent.

Don't know anything about the timing of it all, but if US Airways does go bankrupt, anyone holding a ticket is considered a creditor of the airline--and those creditors will be WAY down the list of those waiting to be paid. Most likely, you will be out the money you paid for your ticket.
