I was called a Pom by a Boer, which surprised me, I thought that was a specifically Australian/Kiwi thing.
Just for fun, just found an Aussie taking a poke at the English on a Rugby forum.
"Gee, another gutless ANONYMOUS pommie fan talking smack. No wonder the British Military has the Ghurkas for when the going gets tough."

Oh and it appears the Football football conflict isn't exclusive to Fodors.
"What's a Yank doing posting on this site ?
Sod off and play your own world championships in American Football and Baseball etc. that 99% of the rest of the world neither play nor care about.
Leave the verbal arm wrestling and whinging on proper sports to us Poms and Convicts"

Very droll
!
I am far more of a football fan than the odd shaped balls game, but did follow the World cup in France.
Given England's poor form in the years between the two tournaments, Losing in the final would have been way beyond any realistic hopes.
Given a choice between losing finalists and going out in the group stage to Fiji, I know which I would have preferred.
