Hello!

My parents love Rome and have visited many times. They are currently there through the end of November staying in an apartment. They just supported me through a wonderful wedding, and I want to give them a fun thank you gift while they're in Rome. I'm considering cooking classes. Does anyone have any recommendations for a one day class for two sophisticated folks? Hopefully some great Rome history, great company, and fun interesting recipes!

Hi! Check out www.cittadelgusto.it This is the Gambero Rosso site where they hold wonderful cooking and wine tasting classes which can last one or two days or even months. They generally have either single food lessons eg. risotto, polenta, fish...or lessons with a specific chef. I have been to their one day bread-making which was really fun and useful as well as the 6 months wine tasting. The place is terrific with 4 floors of restaurants, wine bar, cooking theatre, kitchen, cook shop etc The prices range from approx 70 euros up.

Although I have not taken her class, I am a big fan of Maureen Fant, a scholar and author who lives in Rome; her food articles appear in the New York Times and other publications and she has written an excellent guide to the trattorias of the "Big 3" cities. I know Maureen Fant well and she's a very nice person and very informed. Good idea!
