Winery
Since Tuscany is wine country, it seems like it should be easy to find a winery to tour, but, I'm having a difficult time. I've looked in my guide books and most of the wineries listed are in Chianti. We will be staying a little South of that area in Pienza. I have searched and searched the Internet and the only thing I can find are Web sites that offer tours and they cost hundreds of dollars.
We want to just drive up ourselves and tour a winery. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would prefer one between Pienza and Siena, but we could arrange to drive past one on our drive from Pienza to LaSpezia.

How about Castello Banfi? It's near Montalcino. They have a great tasting room & gift shop. You can make a reservation for lunch and a tour of their winery. They make some great wines.
I don't know of any places you can just drive up to and tour their winery (their cellars/vinyards) without a reservation.

Dear Mod,
all of Italy is wine country, I defy anyone to find anywhere in this land of bacio di sole where they don't make a local wine.
Not to knock Tuscan wines, but come to Piedmont for real wine country! And freindly wineries.
