Wine region in France - recommendations

Would love advice for a town to experience wine in France. I know there are many, but would love to hear recommendations to the following itinerary.

Here is the itinerary so far:
-Lyon
-need the next stop here for wine area -3 nights/2 full days
-Bayeux to do D Day sites
-Paris then Paris.

Would you recommend Bordeaux area or another?

Look at the Burgundy area and base yourself in Beaune or Dijon. Lots of wine activity in the area. We stayed in Beaune in September and loved it. And not all that far from Lyon.

Not sure if you want a town as much wine is made in the country but as waterdog says Beaunne is a possible, Chablis (white) is a nice little town for similar, Sancerre (for sauvignon blanc) is spectacular, while Champage (Epernay or Rheims) might be good

Bordeaux is wwwaaaaaaayyyyy out of the way - and my least favorite winegrowing area.

Like others have stated - Beaune or Dijon.

If you take the train to Dijon from Lyon you can rent a car at the train station to tour the wine areas of Burgundy and stay in Beaune or Dijon. I prefer Beaune but Dijon is fine too as a base.

Not Bordeaux.
Bayeux doesn't have wine.
Loire near Paris.
At what level do you want to "experience" wine?
But Beaune would be the heart of Burgundy.

Thanks so much for you opinions. That helps so much and I think it makes a lot of sense to stay in Beaune or Dijon.

We are not going to Bayeux for wine, that is for D Day History. Beaune sounds like the favorite. Thank you!

In Reims Veuve Cliquot is open to the public but you may have to book ahead.

They do tours as well as the smaller artisan vineyards. The bigger ones don't do tours to the public.

We stayed in Dijon and Beaune as part of our bike tour of Burgundy. My husband did a wine tasting session at one of the Beaune shops with an expert to guide him through the notes and types and he thought it was very worthwhile. He did not have to prebook, just walked in.
