Wine and cheese on IC trains in Italy
We were wondering about whether one can take wine and cheese (and bread and salami and other goodies?) on an IC train in Italy for consumption while enroute. We'll be taking an early evening train in September from Florence to Orvieto and would like to enjoy the 90 minute trip with our friends as we usually do - with a nice bottle of wine to accompany our chatter. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if it is allowed (although, my guess would be it is fine to bring them and consume them on the train).
However, I seem to recall that the IC trains that we've taken before did not have tables, similar to those in Eurostar trains, that are in the middle of 2 rows of seats facing each other. I don't even remember seeing any fold out tables at the back of the seats of IC trains.
Probable not a big issue if, first of all , it is allowed, and secondly, one can simply pour and pass around plastic cups of wine and sandwiches.

There are no rules about bringing food aboard European trains (thank God)...it is a common occurrence.
OK..reapeat the above three more times.
What is sometimes challenging is finding a place to spread out the food on some of the trains...some of them have what you and I would call a "snack bar" area with tables and chairs of a sort...you can do it there or at your seat.
Don't forget the corkscrew...and have a GREAT trip.
