Wiesbaden/Mainz Question ?
Hello,
We will be visiting the Wiesbaden/Mainz area in mid October. My daughter will be leaving shortly to meet up with her new husband who is statined at the US Amy base in Wiesbaden. Does anyone have information on shops, hotels, restaurants, things to do etc. near the base.
Thanks !
Mary

Wiesbaden has a very nice pedestrian mall, about 4-5 blocks long. There are two nice department stores and a variety of shops. Both department stores have restaurants with good food at reasonable prices. There are several Bavarian restaurants in Wiesbaden also. Have fun.

I believe the Army base is in Wiesbaden. In any case, Mainz is only 15 minutes away by auto. I don't remember specific restaurants. I used to stay at the Nasseur Hof Hotel several times a year while on business. It was my "home away from home". Wiesbaden is a delightful city that was spared from the ravages of WWII. You won't have any difficulty finding restaurants. One place I do remember is a walk-up wurst stand on the pedestrian mall--about half way down on the left. Delicious!

Mary,
I believe the nearest IKEA is in Wallau. You can check out their website for directions

There is a fair distance along a major road between Mainz and Wiesbaden installations. There is very little (nothing?) near(walking) the Airfield. Mainz Kastel has a shopping center and Wiesbaden has PX/commissary and there is also a seperate location for the golf course. A car is VERY helpful for getting about between installations. A walk in Mainz or Wiesbaden are very pleasant. As for a taxi, I don't know the cost but the distance is not much, but the taxi will have to drop the passengers off at the gate.
