Why quote from Sixt so much cheaper than Autoeurope?

Autoeurope had a link to a "special" savings of 25% on a Mercedes. I followd the link and got a quote for a Mercedes E 240 for 5 days, around 1100 USD. (Quote showed this as regular price 1800, and a "discount" of around 600)

Thinking that was a bit high, I went right to Sixt and for the exact same car, same dates, same pick up & drop off, same insurance options, their quote was 475 euros, which translates to about 575 USD.

Since I've used Autoeurope many times in the past, I filled out the "beat the rate" form so we'll see what they say. I'm just curious if anyone had any input into why the disparity.

Don't have a reason, but it's happened that the same car from the same location can be coming in at hugely different amounts. Did a search on Kemwell a few months ago, the company that came up as the actual rental location was another (could have been Autoeurope), went to their website and it was three times what it was through Kemwell. Nuts, but that must be the benefit of bulk-buying by a brooker, that's all I can think of.

Take it while the taking is good.

Check to make sure it's unlimited miles. We got a terrific rate from Sixt in 2003, and it turned out that it was not unlimited miles. It still worked out to be a fair rate, but not as good as it had seemed at first blush.

Good point on the unlimited miles. The Autoeurope people said the same thing...theirs included UM and Sixt has 1750 miles included. Also Autoeurope included fire ins. and Sixt says "third party ins., excluive of other ins." which I take to mean they include liability but nothing else.

So now I need to know how to compare apples to apples. I don't need the insurance since I subscribe to Amex's premium rental ins plan with no deductable (cost: $20 per rental).

1750 miles in 5 days is way more than we need. For 2 of those days the car will probably sit idle except for a trip out to dinner.

Thought I would update you on the rental car issue.

Autoeurope matched the rate I got from Sixt and threw in the unlimited miles and the fire ins.

I've always found Autoeurope easy to deal with if a problem arises, so I jumped at it. Good P.R.

It's amazing when you shop around you can get a much better rate.

I found Gemut.com to be $140 less expensive than autoeurope for the exact same car.
