Treesa, what would rent for two months be for a flat in Venice. That seems like a great idea.

Hope it isn't too late to reply!
I have been lucky enough to travel all over Europe (and beyond) but Venice remains the place I love the most. I always recall my first view of the Grand Canal early one evening after a long and tiring train journey - as my husband will vouch, I am not often 'lost for words' but I was right then!
It really is the most atmospheric place I have ever seen. Away from the main tourist drag you can so easily lose yourself in tiny, twisting streets. Do read Don't Look Now by Daphne du Maurier - she captures this atmosphere perfectly. Also Miss Garnet's Angel by Sally Vickers which wil inspire you to seek out the beautiful churches.
Venice is soooo romantic too! On my last visit (May 2004) we enjoyed tea and cakes at Florians mid afternoon. A small wedding party (bride, groom, 2 friends, all in their 40's) came and sat down at a nearby table - they had obviously just left the registry office. They ordered drinks, and once they had settled the small orchestra struck up the Wedding March! The bride and groom stood up, moved to the edge of St Marks Square, and began to dance together to the band. It brought tears to our eyes!
I cannot imagine anyone going to Venice and then saying they regretted it!
if you have time do go to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum and look at the view of Venice from the balcony of the Museum.

Not too late at all, Morgana. Thank you for your delightful ideas. I have cut and pasted them along with the other great posts I received here.

Indeed, we are very excited about traveling to beautiful Venice. Thankful now, we considered it, and very thankful we had momentary wisdom to post the question, 'Why do you love Venice' what great, heartfelt responses that truly inspired! These have been my favorite responses of any post I have written.
