Why do the hotels in Europe, charge per-person?

Myriam. To an extent I stand corrected. The web sites that you list do, indeed, quote room rates on a per person per room basis. However, each of these hotels has at least one einezelzimmer (single room). One person will not be booked into a dopplezimmer or an apartment at the per person per day rate; there will be a surcharge for the unused bed space. Similarly, the per person rate discourages two people from trying to crown into a room designed (and bedded) for one. Since very few hotels or B&Bs in the US have a room that classifies as a single room (i.e., only one twin bed in the room), this mode of pricing has no application in the US. Its all in the eye of the beholder.
