They've said they're working on it, they are well aware of it...it's a free country (I think), but is it really necessary to keep going on and on about it? I think the point has been made, surely.

There was Korean spam on the Asia board both today and yesterday, but it was quickly cleaned up. I agree that Fodor's has been slow to implement a solution that keeps such spam from being posted. But as I understand it, Internet Brands has been fully given the control over the tech aspects of the forums just this week. I am hopeful they will get it taken care of.

Untangling a legacy system is tedious and messy. Bi***ing about the problems and insinuating that the team working on it sucks, or is insufficiently sensitive to the suffering of Fodorites, and doing so over and over and over, is obnoxious.

WoinParis: >>None on other forums.<<

Was thinking of other sites, not other forums.
The team probably does its best. But either they are inefficient or are not given the resources necessary.

It is not a critic, it is a constatation.
If you want to buy a hamburger and have 2 booths for 60 people at one place and 6 booths for 60 people at place B, you'll go to place B, won't you ? Called competitiveness : dinosaurs die, fast adapting beasts survive.

Same here. how long has it been going on ? How many times have we been informed of the progress or lack of ?

We got 'poudre aux yeux' and Fodors is inadequately coping with the problem.

Now as I said, who cares ? You don't, me neither - and you should be glad, I am a lot less on the forums !

But I guess NewbE will find a way to say I'm the one to blame...

If I complain because I want to post, I am a guy with no life.
If I stay away and post once a day that the problem is still there, I am bi$$ing.

some people are never satisfied...

Until IB gets around to implementing a technical solution, or the Korean spammers get bored, I do not expect the situation will change.

How about a script that checks posts for foreign characters (this is an English forum after all) and do a character count and automatically delete posts that pass the threshold. Any IT monkey can do that.

sparks - I too am surprised that they can't implement what ought to be quite an easy programme.

that's why I though that cafe goddess's jokey posts in korean had been deleted.

IB is JUST NOW taking over. Up til now they haven't had the 'authority' to make major changes. Plus the same staff oversees their other sites. They will fix things.

This is not new -- there was similar 'Korean' spam a couple of years ago which eventually gave up or were 'programmed out', and we survived.

Give them time . . .

And calling them 'monkeys' is really helpful.

Wait, you mean you don't refer to your IT group as IT monkeys and your programmers as code monkeys?

JanisJ, either give us some sort of <B>reference</B> which backs up your assertions about fixing things and "authority" and the "taking over" timeframe or have the common courtesy to preface your remarks with the words, "In My Opinion."

Why not temporarily move threads to the Canada forum? There's room, and the Koreans will never find us there.

In my opinion.

Dukey1, your pomposity deserves no reply, but here is one, anyway:

From that thread:

Hello!

We are currently in the middle of fully migrating the site over to Internet Brands from Penguin Random House so users may experience some unusual technical issues. This official migration started yesterday, and we expect this to last a week or so. We apologize for this inconvenience.>

If you're going to b***h, at least go to the appropriate forum and read the several threads that are already going over there. Cluttering up the travel boards is just dumb.

No - it isn't my opinion in any way shape or form.

It is just that I've paid attention since the first announcement re IB taking over from Random House last Spring.

I think we need a space to ensure our concerns are high in the mind, "the squeaky wheel gets the oil" I doubt personal attacks or verbals at Fodors helps, just squeak regularly....

Happy Sunday!

I suggest a complete and total shutdown of Koreans on Fodor's until we can figure out what the hell is going on.

Squeak squeak. It's getting ridiculous when the first 100 messages are spam

This board is becoming useless for those of us in Europe...it has been almost a month. Even the most patient of us are getting fed up now....

Impression given is
- Fodors doesn't care;
- Fodors doesn't have the resources and doesn't commit;
- Fodors is totally inefficient.

Not sure any of the abvoe is glorious.
