Interesting how newly registered Jey is so invested in this thread. I am pretty much over it except for looking at replies. Best wishes, Claire. Hope you plan to download apps or bring guides for restaurants, as you will not have this much time while traveling to hang out here for advice.

I also am feeling the spector of Dobby .

Crazy: I'd maybe be a little leery of posts/info from JeyMorgan. Just a hunch, but he only joined up in the last few days and has already flogged that website 20+ times.

Agreed Janisj, it's very odd. Claire at this stage don't worry about anyone else's trip just focus on yours. Why did you post those three links if they aren't available, it's very confusing.

"I am not sure of Milan locations . .the hotels we are looking at are in different areas "

You said the same thing about Nice back when you were going to Nice, and you a got a lot of help about it, which was a total waste of everyone's time since now you're going somewhere else. IF you bothered to consult a guidebook AND used Google maps you could answer that very basic question yourself.

I am so over this ditz - just hoping for a good train wreck of a TR.

I don't often think people should use travel agents, because I think trip planning should be fun and we can do it with help from the web, and you fine folks here at Fodor's.

HOWEVER - I think crazyfamilyof4 should. Especially for a trip like this, with all the changes, and the fact that she can't seem to focus.

crazyfamilyof4 - think about getting a TA to help you. Seriously.

Claire. I am one of your supporters, but your inconsistencies make it difficult.
<<In regards to Nico in Tuscany . .he couldn't get us into his resort but into an apartment in a town. We thought for this part of the trip it would be nice to stay somewhere with a pool and things to do on the property.>>
This apartment looked like a terrific solution in the heart of Tuscany. But you rejected it because there is no pool.
Then you choose a very nice apartment in Lucca far from the heart of Tuscany with no pool.

<<Since Lucca isn't too far from Siena we have decided to stay in Lucca for longer...we plan on having a car for this part of our trip and will go to Siena for a day trip rather then unpacking and packing again . . .we got a great price!>>
Siena is a 2 hour drive plus half hour walk from Lucca, not exactly close.

I also recommend, as a day trip the hill towns of San G and Voltera which are also 2 hour drives and long walks from Lucca.

On your day trip to Siena, treat the kids and yourself to my favorite gelato in Castellena in Chiante

Somewhere in these hundreds of posts I read that you are now planning staying 10 days in Avignon/Provence with mum and the kids. Is this still the plan? What is your latest thinking? All 10 days in Avignon? Some days in San Remy? From where are you planning to fly to Venice? Need help here?

Goodmorning everyone.

I understand everyones advice. the booking.com links didn't seem to work so I cut and pasted them from their direct links for Milan.

Believe it or not I do have a TA . . she has booked the main flight. I can consult her but I felt your advice was better and more knowledgable then hers.

The Nice apartment is still available and is on a cancellation is ok scenario . . .I really wanted to go to Nice but over here everyone has discouraged us .. but please do not feel it was a waste of time . . .others will find the advice and links very helpful . . .I know this is what I did before I signed up.

Hubby is a school principal and unfortunately when you run a school it becomes the first priority and due to not having a replacement now he has to stay until the new replacement can start which is after our school holidays in term 3.

Yes for Italy we will have a car. The italian teacher at his school believed Lucca was a better location for us then Nico's apartment. Also Nico had to have us stay a full week and with the boat crossing from Barcelona the dates didn't work out as well as the drive straight to Lucca.

From my memory of Milan 10years ago I am sure any of those three hotels will be great . . I am leaning towards overlooking the dumo,

Yes, mother and I are still planning on 10days in Avignon/Provence and some days in San Remy and some days in Avignon is the plan . . .we haven't booked the flight to Venice but I guess it would be from Avignon. Our issue with this part of the trip is not having a car . .but I think we are going to use taxis or something. Mum was there 2years ago and this was her mode of transport and she felt it was the safest. She is looking into a private driver for the time or something.

As I said earlier . .I really feel like we are getting somewhere . . .I know some of you don't but when I look at our trip there is only a few more areas to book. It's almost done and when everything is booked I am going to post a new thread with links to all our bookings for future fodors . . should this be the start of my trip report?

Make sure you can get taxis with appropriate child restraints.

I don't think there's any need to post all the links, it's better to follow Fodor's and when somebody asks about staying in a particular place, then you can post you specific info. I'm glad you are getting things organised.
