Who else is Counting The Days?

We usually travel in March, April, or May, so this year's combination vacation/business trip in June seems awfully far away. . .
Doesn't help that my parents leave for Italy this week and are all excited.

Who else is counting down the days? I see that kismetchimera is going to Rome in two weeks, 111op is headed off to London at the end of the month.

Does anyone else have any little tricks they use to make a trip seem not so far away? I'm passing the time by printing out a different route from viamichelin every day. Plus, I'm starting to think about what clothes, shoes, and handbags to take.

It is now 15 days until my trip to the UK. Today I looked at my calendar and saw what I was doing 15 days ago, and said to myself, "Hey, that wasn't very long ago," then the trip will seem like it's coming sooner. I do this every day when a trip is approaching.

Hi elle, thanks for the thought. Actually in London on 5/20 and 5/30, but will be in Scandinavia in between.

I blogged about the flights in between here:

http://makeashorterlink.com/?N2733221B

Actually I've been blogging about my trip preparation in general, and it's helping me count the days. Another trip is to procrastinate booking my last hotel (which is a London hotel for the first night -- and trying to bid on Priceline every day, just for fun ) -- it makes me think that I've something else to do.

And just checking Fodors in general.

I think that I've prepared for this trip fairly well, actually. Usually I'm still booking some sort of hotel 24 hours before, but I should be done with this soon.

Packing clothes doesn't take me much time (I guess being a guy helps), but gathering information for the trip usually takes me a while.

And of course, starting to think about the next trip (hence the recent questions on SF and Paris on this forum).

I do the same thing!

And when I think back to what I was doing exactly one month ago (working on our taxes), looking one month ahead is definitely preferable .

4 days and I'm off to Paris for a week! I've been so busy with work and other things that this trip snuck up on me! I have some shopping to do before I head over! Yikes!

31 DAYS to Paris and Rome!

This will go quickly for us though, as we have a million things to do before we leave. One son is off to a retreat, we have a college orientation (350 miles away) to attend, high school graduation and parties, and umpteen end-of-year concerts. My kids were giving me a hard time about going shopping for some clothes for them for Europe and I pointed out that they only have 3 "free" days between now and whem we leave. (It didn't convince them though...guess they'll just pack what they have!)

Hi elle --

I'm definitely counting! We leave in 45 days for our trip to Rome, the Amafi Coast, and Venice. My trick to make it seem shorter is to think of it in terms of weeks, though, knowing how fast a week can pass by in my busy workplace. So, we're really leaving in 6 weeks!

I'm also thinking about clothing and already making new purchases to set aside for the trip. Also, practicing my Italian and reading our guidebooks almost nightly. =)

Enjoy - it won't be much longer now!

I count the pay periods leading up to the trip to stave off counting the days. It makes me feel better if I have more pay periods to go before a trip because I can con myself into believing that each pay period, I'll save X amount of dollars for the trip and the trip will be all the better.

I'm off to Provence for 2 weeks on June 2. Now I'm obsessing about clothes/shoes. Heading to the outlet mall soon. Having a "kick off the season" BBQ on Sunday & that's been keeping me busy. Had my backyard/front walk redone & have been planting a lot of pots.
Happy travels, Everyone!

Interesting idea, aschie, but I only get paid once a month. Therefore my trip is 1/2 a pay period away. Hey, that doesn't sound so far off!!

6 days and 10 hours till Germany, Austria and Switzerland. At least I haven't started counting minutes, yet. I try to get caught up here at work which makes the time really pass for me. I try unsuccessfully not to look at weather.com's 10 day forecast more than 3 times day - or that will really get me anxious...

I do, I do! I count them out loud at work

As of now only 3 business days (or 5 calendar days) till I take off to Switzerland.
