I will be travelling to venice (with a 4 yr old) and trying to finalise my stay. I have shortlisted the following... Can you advise me on your experience in deciding one of these?

Hotel Palazzo Vitturi
Hotel Violino d'Oro
Residenza Ca' San Marco

The only one I'm familiar with is Violino d'Oro. We've stayed there two or three times and like it just fine. Nice location, just a little ways from San Marco and next to the pricey Bauer Grunerwald. On a canal with gondoliers. Lots of restaurants close by. Nice clean rooms in the typical Venice (lots of damask in dark colors and Murano glass chandeliers) style. We'd probably book again if we couldn't get into the Locando Orseola which we liked a lot when we visited our kids who stayed there.

If noise is your concern, Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo is very quiet, yet still close to a vaporetto and a 5-8 minute walk from Ponte Rialto markets.

I just replied in another post asking about Al Ponte Mocenigo's proximity to the main attractions(San Marco) I will be travelling with a 4 year old.

If proximity to San Marco is priority for your, the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo is not the best choice. You would have a 7-10 minute walk to the Ponte Rialto and then a 7-10 minutes walk to Piazza San Marco. Or you could take the traghetto (gondola ferry) 5 minutes away at Pescheria and then have a 10-15 minute walk. However, fifty steps from the door of the hotel is the San Stae vaporetto stop, so walking may be unnecessary.

I prefer to be away from San Marco. I'm not sure a 4 year old would enjoy the very crowded streets in that area either. However a 4 year old and his or her parents might enjoy the more neighborhoody feel of Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio (a piazza) nearby. The wonderful Frari church is quite close by as are the Rialto markets.

It has a lawn and garden, and was quiet. partly on the grand canal and near to everything you are going to want to see.
