Which side trip from Amsterdam would you suggest?

My favorite city in Holland. Delft, Delft and Delft. I just told a couple I met in Vienna who were on their way to Holland to make sure and do a day trip to Delft, or they would surely regret not seeing it.
Bruges doesn't even come close in enjoyment/aesthetic value to Delft, IMO. Brugge is little more than an ossified set of buildings stuck in time as tourist attractions. You see one, you've seen them all. Delft on the other hand, is a living city, both ancient and modern, with a lovely Old City and canals to wander along. Much to see and do-life of Vermeer and his art, Royal Delft factory, ancient churches, the Town Hall, a number of museums, guided walks, flea market on the weekend along the canal, fairly good restaurants. No downsides here.
