Which Neighborhood in London?

HI all..

I am looking for a hotel in London and reading thru many of the older posts here. for assistance. Lots of great advice to be found there!

One major question that comes to mind: which neighborhood(s) would be good to focus upon if we are looking primarily to be in the heart of shopping, restaurants (vs. theatre, historical, etc.)

I would heartily recommend South Kensington, in particular, the Chelsea Green hotel. A beautiful, quiet area with tons of great restaurants and shopping, yet very close to Knightsbridge, while not being as expensive. Also, a five minute or less walk to the So Ken tube. We loved it!

(In my opinion) one of the best hotel search websites for London is smoothhound.com
It lists hotels by neighborhood and you can see photographs of the rooms and the exterior...great prices, too.
