Which Florence and Venice train station?

I am trying to figure out the itinerary for our family trip to Italy this February and I was checking train times on the trenitalia site, but I don't know which train station I need! I come up with 2 Florence stations - Firenze S. M. Novella and Firenze Campo Di and 2 Venice stations - Venezia S. Lucia and Venezia Mestre. Which Florence and Venice stations should I be using? I am totally confused!

Easy answer:

Firenze Santa Maria Novella (S.M. Novella); and

Venezia Santa Lucia (S. Lucia).

DO NOT GET OFF THE TRAIN AT VENEZIA MESTRE!! STAY ON THE TRAIN TO VENEZIA SANTA LUCIA (END OF THE LINE AND ONE STOP AFTER VENEZIA MESTRE).

Do not forget!!!!

Yes...and be sure to get a train that goes to Venezia S. Lucia. There are a number that only go as far as Venezia Maestre.

John, we were told that all the trains go to Santa Lucia, whether or not it is indicated on the schedule. Maybe someone can confirm this.

All trains with Venice as end station will continue from Mestre on the mainland to Santa Lucia on the islands. Trains which only stop in Venice on their way between other cities, like Vienna to Rome and Trieste to Milan, will stop in Mestre but not go out to Santa Lucia.

since everyone seems to have given you the right infor for train stations...wait until you come out of Santa Lucia in Venice and find yourselves surrounded by that magical city! If you want a sneak preview rent "Summertime" (1955) with Katherine Hepburn. Have a great time!
