Where's a good place for breakfast near Windsor Castle?

Anyone have a favorite breakfast spot near Windsor Castle entrance?

When will you be arriving? I think you are not likely to find anywhere with breakfast after 9 AM, but perhaps others will chime in. If I were looking for a nice breakfast in Windsor, I would look for a hotel frequented by business people.

"Breakfast all day" or "breakfast until 11" is not something I remember seeing in the UK except at places for truck drivers (transport cafs).

You could find a cup of coffee or tea and a bacon or sausage roll in all sorts of cafes, but not necessarily a fuller spread.

Not the best, far from the worst, there's a Cafe Rouge branch in the Royal Windsor shopping arcade directly across the street from the castle.

Windsor Castle opens at 9:45, so we could eat early, at least by 8:00 or so as we need to go get a phone at the Carphone Warehouse which opens at 9:00

Gardyloo, that looks perfect, thank you!

Is it small? For a group of 6, should we actually make reservations for breakfast?

Don't want to be waiting if there's a lot of humanity there before Windsor Castle Opens.

Unlike in the US, eating out for breakfast has never really caught on in the UK, even less so the idea of making a table reservation for that time on the morning. Unusually, the Wetherspoons chain of pubs do open early at either 7 or 8am (I pass one on my way to work every day and there's never anybody in it). There are two in the centre of Windsor, see http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/

I wouldn't think reservations would be necessary for breakfast, and probably not taken. It's reasonably large.

" should we actually make reservations for breakfast"

Except at the Wolseley (the central London home of power breakfasts for the hedge fund industry) I've never, ever heard of anyone trying to reserve a table for breakfast in Britain. I'm honestly unaware of anywhere else even having a dogeared notebook they could record such a request.

You might imagine a few central London hotels might - but then how could they cater for their paying overnight guests?

Always open to learning new things, but I'd suggest the question's in the same league as asking how to book a seat on the Tube.

Sorry flanneruk, here in the US it is possible to have waiting lines for breakfast.

It's possible in the UK, too, though not likely, but they would be unlikely to take reservations anyway. Different strokes.

Here's a PDF of my fave British breakfast story, which I transcribed from a pre-internet edition of the Sunday Times: http://gardyloo.us/Rise%20and%20Swine.pdf

wrenwood: Yes, here in the States lots of places might have queues for breakfast. But around where I live at least, few if any would take bookings.

Even less so IME in England.

Don't know your budget, but if you stay at either Stoke Park Club or Coworth Park (both 6 or 7 miles from Windsor Castle) and book it through Virtuoso, you can get FREE breakfast for two in addition to being in a 5* hotel.
