For a complete change, how about southern Sweden? Ystad is a popular summer place. Or some of the islands further north around Stockholm?

charneess - I don't think that that would suit the OP's father who just wants to sit round the hotel pool.

i suppose that if it was wet/cold, he could do the Wallander tour.
