Hmmm...That's interesting. I'm able to bring up my webpage at home and at work. It's developed using Homestead which can be tempermental. I know some people on this board have been able to access it in the past. I know it doesn't work on WebTV. If possible, maybe you can try on another computer. Discouraging for me, I'm afraid, as I've put a lot of work into it already.

Well, I don't know what the problem was -- and there was a problem, but it seems to be working fine now. Please try again:
www.travelswithdiane.homestead.com
Joyce -

My wife and I spent five days on Santorini in May of 1997(8) and loved it! We stayed in the Altana house and the view was incredible, we had our own balcony and patio where we ate breakfast every day. It overlooks teh volcano and is in firostephani, I believe. Very nice location and about a twenty minute walk to FIRA along a walkway that winds its way along the caldera. We use Twelve Island and Beyond to book everything from flights to accomodations without a hitch.. They were great..1-800-345-8236
there are many pensions on Santorini. they are wonderful, little patios overlooking the blue Aegean.. you want to be able to walk to everything & not have to rely on any taxi..watch out for the uzo, but, enjoy the dancing.

Joyce-

Perivolas rate is around $275-$300 per night. I got a cheaper rate going thru a travel agent verses booking directly. It's not cheap but, you only have one honeymoon(hopefully).

Thanks KS! I've received such helpful information from so many people - this is great!
Curious...were you happy with having Oia as your home base? From what I've heard, it seems as though Fira is the best place to stay if you want to walk everywhere, but you suggest Perivolas in Oia. Thoughts?

Joyce, honestly you cannot go wrong here. If you will be there for more than five days I recommend you try staying in two locations, Oia and Firostephani. Oia for the charm and Firostephani for convenience. Firostephani is quiet yet close enough to walk into town; it's a short taxi or bus ride. Room #31 at Sun Rocks Villas is a marvelous suite. Next time I go I plan to stay at Homeric Poems. Just make sure you reserve a room with a patio overlooking the caldera.

Joyce-
Deciding between Fira and Oia is easy depending on what your preferences are. If you like being in the middle of all the action, surrounded by tons of tourists and the smell of donkey dung, then Fira is for you. If you are the partying type and want night life then stay in Fira.

If you prefer a more relaxed, less crowded, charming environment then Oia is what you want. Oia is not dead, they have many restaurants and shops. If you stay at the Perivolas you can walk into Oia which is about a 15 min walk.

If we go back to Santorini we will stay in Oia again.

Just got married in Oia 2 weeks ago. Oia is much nicer for a romantic getaway than Fira which reminded me of a touristy beach town (think Patpong in phuket,Cancun,Cairns). You should consider renting a car. Makes it easy to get around. Oia is only 20 minutes from Fira by car. And it isn't difficult at all to drive around even at night. Book with Budget in the US for cheaper rates, altho my friend rented a no frills jeep for 17,000 dr a day (US$45)at the port. Canaves Ia looked really nice. I would choose Perivolas if money's not a problem. I wouldn't recommend my hotel which was perfect for a wedding party but not for a honeymoon. Oia Mares looks good too. You must have dinner at 1800 in Oia. Great food. Do write to me if you want more information. Astra Villas in Imeroglivi is impressive too. When in Athens try to stay in the Plaka.
Some of my wedding guests went to Crete after 4 days in Oia. They had a great time in Crete as well. It was a nice contrast.
Jenny
