Where to stay in Vienna

We will be in Vienna in mid-September for 4 nights and would welcome suggestions of where to stay. Which part of the city would you advise and any specific accommodations?

Pension Sacher is right on Stephenplatz and overlooks the Cathedral. I had apt #6 a one bedroom that even had my name plate above the bell to the apt. It was spectacular-the apt, the hosts, the view, everything. Couldn't have a better location.

A Fodorite led us to Pension Suzanne
We had a wonderful 4 night stay there.
Near the Opera House, it was very a convenient location.
we would definitely stay there again.

I'd try to stay inside the no2 tram circular route. It makes getting about very easy

Hotel Royal, around the corner from St. Stephen's Cathedral & Stephansplatz. Terrific breakfast buffet.
