where to stay in Switzerland ?
Hello everyone,
We recently booked our Airfare for summer vacation to Switzerland and Rome in 2nd week of August. Family of 2 adults and 2 kids (10 and 6).
I have done a lot of looking around, but not able to find good accommodations (pref apartments) in Switzerland. We are flying into Zurich. I am open to staying in Zurich or Lucerne or Interlaken whichever makes it easier for our daily excursions.
Can I please get some suggestions ? We would like a decent apartment with good amenities and close to trains.
Thanks in advance,
Shubha

You really don't want to stay i nZurich, which is primarily a business city. You should head for Lucerne - which has a bunch of options for boat trips and mountain ascensions - or stay in one of the smaller towns in the Berner Oberland.
But without more information - esp budget - it's impossible to make recos. I hope you have taken into account the fact that Swtiz is probably the most expensive country in europe.

We stayed just outside Lauterbrunnen a few year ago now with our kids (http://www.homeaway.com.au/holiday-rental/p19719 ). We did have a car however, although we did use trains heaps. It was one of our best family holidays.

Thanks for your responses.
Nytraveler, my initial choice was Lucerne, but the apartments we looked at were very basic. Budget, probably about $300-$350 per night. Any suggestions ?
I read about some family rooms too, that can work also if we can get a good one.
Thanks

Ok, after a bit more of research, seems like Lucene suits our family better.
I also read about family rooms to accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids. Any particular hotels that offer these type of accommodations ?
I also read about Weggis, but I think it may be too remote specially with kids.. Any thoughts?

PRLCH - We are staying in the same chalet in a couple weeks with our two kids! I just can't wait! Our kids are 1 and 3. Any recommendations on what to do, where to eat, special spots, etc? We will not have a car, but we will have a train pass. Thanks!

Hi GillsinEurope
We were there in 2006, and it was a magical holiday!! My elder daughter (who is now 20) just said yesterday how she really wants to go back to Switzerland! Here is a link to our trip report, which will give you an idea of the types of things we did when we were there - there is a section covering our Swiss exploring. http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ris-london.cfm
Sorry I cannot give you any feedback on restuarants - we self catered, including a fun evening making Swiss Cheese Fondu (my girls were in their teens so it was a fun family activity).
As I mentioned, we did have a car. The chalte is outside Lauterbrunnen, so we found the car handy to get to the station. I know there is a busstop right outside the chalet but I have no idea how frequently the bus runs. It must have been a reasonable service though, as I seem to recollect that the owners did not in fact have a car of their own.
Have a wonderful trip! I am envious!

Hi shubha,
Just go to
www.luzern.com
You can search for hotels by date, number of rooms, and number of beds in the room. So, you can search for one room with four beds.
Once you get a list of hotels, come back and see if we know those hotels.
