Where to stay in Rome

Okay, we've decided on Rome (from previous post). Need advice on where to stay. All we want is a clean place to sleep that is conveniently located. We don't need anything fancy. The cheaper the better. We will only be in the room for 8 hrs/day...just to sleep and shower.

We will probably NOT go to the Vatican as we have already been there.

I just returned from Rome and stayed at Hotel Guiliana. Its located in the Termini area. Many posters have had negative thing to say about this area, but I found the area cool and safe. I paid $140 euro for a double and it was the cheapest I found when I did my research a while back. Things could have changed by now.

Its not super close to everything but I got out and walked all over the place.

Wherever you stay, check reviews to make sure it's quiet. You will probably want something off a main road or a room in the back of the building.

Try Hotel Suisse. It is near the Spanish Steps, clean, quiet, and charming. About 150E I believe.

I rented an apt in Campo di Fiori which was a very nice area. However, if I did it again, I would rent nearer to Piazza Navona. The advantage being it's easier to pick up a taxi. I rented from sleepinitaly.com and they were terrific in communicating with me.

We rented a great apartment at SleepinItaly.com in the Trastavere section of Rome. It was perfect!

I agree with the Piazza Navona area, we stayed in an apartment on via del Goveno Vecchio last tme we went and we walked everywhere. This summer we are only there for 2 days so we are having a room at the Locanda Senatorum, read the reviews on TripAdvisor, I believe we'll be real happy there-same location, so convienent - have a great trip! Buona Pasqua a tutti
