Where to Stay in Rome
My boyfriend & I will be in Rome for 2 days and are looking for a place to stay that is centralized. We are looking to spend not more that $120 a night if possible. We would love a B&B with a private bathroom.
Also, we will be picking up a car from Auto Europe......where to do recommend the best location will be within the city. There are so many choices. Thanks for your help.

Try either Eva's rooms near the Spanish Steps: http://www.evasrooms.com/
or the Roman italian B and B which has had lots of good reviews:http://www.italianbandb.com/english/index-EN.html
I wouldn't rent a car in Rome, traffic is terrible, parking places few and expensive, the public ones are crowded. I would rent a car on my very last day in Rome, going OUT from Rome to some other destination in Italy.

I agree, don't rent a car until you are out of Rome. Not only is it a horrific place to drive, but Rome is a walking city and you will miss most of its charm. I would recommend staying by the Pantheon. The location is great you can walk almost anywhere from there.

We stayed at Hotel Smeraldo 2 years ago and LOVED it: clean rooms, helpful service, great location. It's near Campo di Fiori and Villa Argentina - walking distance to just about everything. You don't need to rent a car in Rome. You can either walk everywhere or ride the bus. Have a wonderful time!

Try the Residenza San Pantaleo, just off the Piazza Navona. Friendly management and good value.

I believe that you will find the Smeraldo and many of the other small hotels just off the Campo de' Fiori to be above your budget of $120.00 US (less than Euro 100.00 at today's rates).

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm going to see who have rooms available.
And we're not renting a car in Rome until our last day. We'e going to be driving from Rome to Florence with 3 days in between. Instead of booking rooms in advance, we're going to take our chances and see what towns and places we come across. I hope our idea works out.

I just returned from Rome where we stayed at Relais Banchi Vecchi near Campo dei Fiori. It is 120 euros for a huge nicely decorated room, ac, beamed ceiling, with a large marble bathroom and a kitchenette. Breakfast is included -- they gave us a coupon to use at a nearby cafe. This is not a full service hotel, but more like an apartment with daily cleaning.
